What does Combo Multiplier do?

I don't understand what the combo multiplier does. It says it "increases your attack power by a certain multiplier with each attack.", but I don't get how the bonus is applied to the attack stat.

To further expand...
You'll find two forms of combo multiplier. A number that appears flat (theory) and a % (theory/combat upgrade). The % number is a multiplier on the flat number. The flat number is the amount it increases your damage by.
If you have 0.01 Combo Multiplier, then each attack will increase your damage by 1%.
If you have 0.01 Combo Multiplier and 20% %Combo, then each attack will increase your damage by 1.2%.
This number is also further increased by your nuke setting.
So if you have 0.01 Combo Multiplier, 20% %Combo, and use 10x nuke, then each attack will increase your damage by 12%.

Fun fact: The reward from Straight Line Challenge II is actually a flat bonus. Meaning each level cleared is equivalent to 1,000 levels of combo theory.
