Can't add friends

Title basically, I'm trying to play with a friend (He's playing over Xbox but got his accounts linked to steam), friendcode also doesn't work
If anyone knows a fix I'd be grateful
We're both in the same region (Eu)
I think we both got Windows 11
We both don't use a VPN

Abysmal party system and matchmaking will accelerate this games death

No more updates + truly some of the worst multiplayer matchmaking/party system ive ever seen, involving running into countless issues just trying to add a friend, nevermind get a full party together means this game discourages an active playerbase
