It was so built into me that i only have 1 block every few seconds rather than being able to hold it in this game until someone drains your block stamina.
One thing ive found that helped me a ton was playing the 64 mode and just rushing groups of people solo, yes you will die alot but you also get use to needing to react fast as one mistake causes you to die. Playing in 3rd person can also help you see attacks you wouldnt be able to read in 1st person.
Just put on some loud music to the point you cant hear your game and brainlessly push groups of people, after a bit should see improvement of being able to read what people will do and what you should.
If you see someone doing some insane moves swap to spectator mode and watch them and try to imitate it into your gameplay.
If you see an item, for example, a barrel or crate, or bell, pick it up and find someone to throw it at. Just like basketball, launch it up in the air and let it fall down through the hoop. Only the hoop is the bad guy's head and it makes for awesome video clips.
- punch
- tackle
- kick
- crouch.. learn to duck
- know your weapon you're using, its range, how to use it well
- dont fight alone
- archers hate shields
- sword fighters hate archers
- learn to use a balista
- learn to use a catapult
- never intentionally team kill no matter what they are doing
- dont abuse the kick player voting system
- use your med kit and restock it if used
- throw your weapon, this makes for really sweet kills
- dont let a crawler crawl off
- run from a fight sometimes
* learn to parry - as you can read, it's very op mechanics which allows you survive ridiculous situations also drains less stamina. this helps very much to stay longer or hold chokepoint on some obj. not to mentioned that you can parry almost every projectile except ballista/cata/crates/barrels. yes even fire pot can be parried if timed right.
* accel/drags - kind of self explanatory. for this i recommend you to dig some guides on yt. it's better to see and hear what to do than just read.
* movement/dodge - it's as important as parrying. in many fights i've just casually walk to the left or right just to avoid stab or overhead.
* don't be greedy - most of the time you can see team swarming one guy just to get kill and killing/damaging other teammates in the process. It's not about TKs but the damage. less health of your team means less ppl on obj. it's better to land hit on enemy if team struggle to take him down and move on.
* don't use slash attacks in group fights - i've died too many times because some dumdum standing right behind me was mindless slashing my back ignoring fact that his attacks affect only me :/ really annoying when you try hold the chokepoint or push obj. Overheads/stabs are way effective.
*morphing attacks - don't spam lbm. use different attacks. enemy usually expects one attacks mostly, so attacking by changing slash to stab/overhead can bamboozle him. doing morphs while moving also allows you to "dance" in the crowd. switching targets to catch opponent unguarded during 1vX and "dance" is hell of a fun doing that.
* kick/punches - i don't use punches at all. prefer kicking because very effective if someone is spamming block. only when you play against real high lvl dude you can feel your lack of punches. your choice.
* don't abuse kicks - if you managed to down enemy don't kick him. just don't be a dikus.
* use environment to kill enemy - there's sooo many things you can grab and throw to your opponent. imo the most op are those wine carboys you can find laying around. the grab animation is fast and damage is quite decent to dominate opponent. really fun to do.
*ignore insults/troll baits in chat - ignore those dumdums seeking attention they didn't recieved irl and keep playing. if he keeps trying, respond "meh, mute him and continue enjoying your game. eventually you can report him but i reeeeealy doubt devs gives a damn about reports. i think it's to not to reduce number of players further than it is rn. mayby cheating cases are dealt, dunno. overall kind of sad.
Follow those tips and have fun.
Most of all ignore whining about archers. any player with common sense will tell you that there's nothing bad in archer class. the problem is the player, not the class. it's annoying only when some smooth brains keep shooting his team instead of enemy. spears are real no brain. imo archer class is great to practice aim and 1v1 moments. enemy lured by a vision of easy kill don't expect getting hit with a bow in the face and then getting smacked with secondary. i've ended many matches with 5-6 kd just doing that. real fun. similiar tactics were used in Mordhau when higher lvl player were using default outift for the class just to bait some dumdums.
I have just shy of 100 hours in the game, all 64 player objective.
I just about have the gist of the combat at this point. I can use pretty much every weapon and place in the top third, most of the time.
It seems for me there were hurdles of progress. Learning to time a parry was very helpful, but learning how to follow up is what made the biggest difference for me. Parry-accel, parry-dodge, even parry-kick.
The point is to gain advantage in the initiative of the fight, which is much easier said than done.
You can master any weapon and do well, but from a big picture perspective, faster weapons are a huge advantage against the majority of players for this reason.
Early on the weapons that were really easy for me to use were like, long sword, falchion, messer, battle axe, and dane axe(of course).
Fight dirty. Also, I don't know what the general consensus is when it comes to assisting or jumping into a 1v1, but I'm always relieved when I'm locked in a loop with a similarly skilled player and a teammate helps me.
I think an important thing to realize is that we got into this awesome game pretty late in it's development life. The community is not massive, and a good amount of regular players are straight cracked. Every round, guaranteed, I run into someone who just absolutely obliterates me every time I see them, and sure enough when I check, they are on the top of the board.
That said, I think it's a great time to be playing this game. There's plenty of people playing, and I never have trouble finding a full server, but the community is small enough that I've started running into the same people, which really adds to the fun for me. Also like I said before, there is a big chunk of the player base that is really good at the game, so doing well feels extra rewarding.
This game became my call of duty since I can't really stand call of duty anymore. Just sit down, put on some music, and vibe.
It is a steep learning curve, first game in a very long time I actually looked up guides for, but It's pretty consistent fun once you get the hang of it.
See you on the battlefield.
My favorite thing to do!
Throwing a barrel and having it crash down on your enemies head for the kill is the best! Like shooting hoops lol
Throw everything! Barrels, crates, wagon wheels, logs, animal skulls, human heads, snowballs, cabbage, watermelon, whole cooked turkeys, and chickens! The list goes on my dude, keep your eyes peeled!
My favorite thing to throw is the bell. You get a +25 clocked! for the kill.
*good morning in danish* have special which throws rider off the horse. not to mention good chonk of attack with cost of speed tho. active drag/accel, parrying needed imo. i apply similiar rule like in Elden Ring - if fight is too long, more things can go wrong.
- toss a barrel
- toss a box
- bring up the Mason Anvil and savor the thud sound it makes on contact
- throw your sword at a wounded foe .. aim for their face
- strafe and hop back
- try to find a bloodied foe and stab him
- overhead swing and stab likely do less damage to team mates
- tackle an injured foe for that satisfying crumble they do
- specifically hunt archers
- kill all archers
- compliment a foe for killing an archer
- throw down your weapons and charge at an archer closing the distance then use fists
- use your heal horn if you have one strategically .. dont waste it
- bonus tip: kill anyone using the heal horn because they know how to play
The bell gives a satisfying ring, plus you get an extra 25 points for "Clocked!" kill.
If there is a valid fire source on the map (Aberfell doesn't have any), you can walk up to them with chicken in hand and gain a much stronger bash than you would with the shields
1vs1 is just practice and hours put in, and being a little clever with the mechanics.
Giant battle you almost never want to 1vs1. Play the objectives, stick with teammates, and be patient. Or if you want to get better quick just rush in and die see how long you can last surrounded.
Its rock paper scissors. Attack, block, feint, parry. All of these have timings that give you capability or fk you over in the moment.
anyways it's been a long time since i played chiv 2 but i typically go 90-7 or something like that in TO. here are some tips.
most of my kills are targeting people who are fighting my teammates. always go for easy hits. i call them indirect kills, you're not duelling you're being a cowardly weasel prick ganking people while their attention is on someone else. easily 70-80% of my kills are this and it's really helpful to the team. you don't need to be a god duellist to top the leaderboards in TO.
1vX is footwork and switching. switching means you strike at an enemy but at the last moment drag the attack to his team mate. always be moving away from them, keeping in the right range and making sure you're not surrounded.
i prefer the bigger weapons with range so vs opponents using shorter but faster weapons you want to abuse your range, let them spam, you dodge and attack. keep footworking away from them. always jab a ton too when they're close.
lastly RUN AWAY. don't over commit and fight to the death it's okay to bail out of a fight, move back, heal up and get back to the fight or run back to your team when there are too many enemies.
anyways that's all i can remember for now good luck.
