blocking angles
So even after all ive played, i still dont understand how some people can block attacks that come from almost behind them, yet i cant block attacks that come from a bit to my side, blocking angles seem incredibly inconsistent.

Enemies can sometimes block my attacks even when im attacking from behind their shoulders.

Main reason I prefer Mount&Blade's directional combat tbh, though Chivalry 2 has much better balance than Bannerlord

I think what will help land your blocks is by pointing your crosshair at a weapon's contact point. Easier said than done since you can still get hit if you're a centimetre off

Lag is the answer, sometimes, often, but there are also cheaters (in barly b4 someone spazzes out claming the opposite despite plenty of evidence)

100% cheats

Most matches the top 3 players are cheating, capable of blocking attacks from all directions at all times even if they are about to be hit in the back of the head.

I'm often top of the leaderboard. I don't cheat. I just kill alot of scrubs who never learned the mechanics of the game. if all you understand is block and swing i'm going to dominate you and all of your friends.

I suppose it could be "Active Parry", though the only gripe i have with that mechanic is that it apparently covers the entire player model, rather than infront of it. I have no idea why they designed it that way.

It might be a combination of lag or just an instance of "invincibility" from perfect parrying.

I thought this topic was going to be about how top players know how to strike your "blind sides" even while you're blocking.

Yeah, I don't buy the top players are cheating. It's very rare but when you come across one, they're teleporting like a doofus or moving extremely fast across the map doing nothing. The problem is they rarely ever do good enough to place top 3.

I'm Level 515 and I intentionally go after the best players at the top because everyone else is pretty much just swinging horizontallly and blocking. That's the only way you get better at this game, you get killed by the "gods" over and over again; slowly picking up their habits along the way until you finally get "good".

That is a cheat.

Should be able to still hit them in the back no problem.

Ever since Torn Banner altered the parry box, people blocking w/ their backs has been an issue. Its not as bad as it was but its still bad. Especially if you use the heavy shield available to guardian.
Guy last night back blocked me two swings in a row. He was CLEARLY looking the other direction. My messer hit on the back of his neck, yet it made a sound like i hit the shield.
Would have needed too decap the guy to get to where my sword hit shield.

Now I'm curious: do shields increase the area where your block is active, or do you still need to point your crosshair at enemy attacks?

From my extensive gameplay, ive noticed that the large shield really increases it. I consistently get the sound of my blade chopping the shield when it clearly strikes their body. Backblocks sometimes happen w/out the shield but that large shield will give one backblock ability a lot.
This was never a problem until TB decided to expand the parry box (that nobody complained about) i assume to make blocking easier for new players. Then they did an update to scale it back but it didnt 100% work as i still see lots of back blocks every battle.
However that large shield, it brings it right back to the way it was when TB first expanded the parry box.

Pretty sure you get a "power block" when fighting multiple opponents. Not sure exactly how it works but seems to trigger when you counter a weapon while being mobbed, it will swing without interruption, and everyone else attacking you will be blocked, even if they are behind you.

There is a small period of time where you will automatically counter or riposte incoming attacks at a specific angle called an active parry. If the active parry is done by a counter, you also cannot be hit by arrows and bolts if the projectile collides with the active parry window
