A Riot Platform Fighter Was cancelled Because of THIS game.
This makes me SO damn sad to hear. They said in an interview that they looked at Multiversus and no longer thought their game that they had been working on would be successful. It had 70-80 people working on it.
This is just crazy. Platform fighters are generally more accessible and popular than traditional fighters, yet this hasn't stopped them from pouring everything into 2XKO. I am excited for that game, but MAN, a Riot Platform Fighter REALLY would have been the Smash killer.

Imagine:
-160 characters they can use
-Experience with a free to play Model and making it work
-THOUSANDS of skins they can make
-the quality and passion that Riot bring to their projects
-The Netcode would have been great.

Now we can only imagine what would have been.

THANKS A LOT MULTIVERSUS. Your failure discouraged an entire Dev team.

Who knows if it's actually true, but now my mind is racing about what could have been.

Edit: Well it's old news now, we can let this topic die guys lol, everyone knows about it now.

That's a real pity.

This game not only killed itself but brought another potential project down with it.

nice trolling they didn't take into account that MV had 150k players in the first week and only lost most of those players because they had to remake the game from scratch in 1 year.

Why would they?

Business people don't seek innovation, they seek trends.

If they were going to monetize their game in a similar way, then it makes unfortunate sense to abort seeing how badly the game has failed not once but twice.

Personally if it was my ship to control, I'd just not repeat the mistakes Multiversus did but tuxedos don't think that way.

It's not like the 2024 launch day had 100k players again, right? 😂

Wew that is a steep curve

So, it was a success, was it? Going from 150k on Steam alone players to <1k on all platforms combined?

A beta which lasted for almost a year? lol

Having your initial release be a beta which was not only almost a year long but then be proceeded to be shut down instead of updating the game to 1.0 isn't a good sign of a successful release.

Playercounts dropped dramatically during both releases too.

no this is not a me issue....if you close vanguard the only way to open it again is to restart your computer. there is the option of leaving vanguard open 24/7 but who would do that?

damn thats a shame imagine if a company that cared about a games competive playerbase made a game like this there would be day 1 ranked and they would've probably not dum the game down enough for it to be playable by toddlers

they probably just looked at what seems like would be a decent game and saw the numbers and negative feedback and thought "ya we could possibly do something better but we will get the same negative issues, move on to other projects" if they flat out thought they could make a proper platform fighter would of been no reason to cancel it,

Not really happy with multiversus official launch but don't blame them for riot games getting cold feet about their own project. if multiversus was amazing and had great results they might of scrapped their project still. blizzard north had warcraft adventures in production and was pretty far along based on what was completed was leaked years later. they had the game written about in gaming magazines back in the day but then was never released because they thought it could never compete with a sequel to monkey island(assuming i'm thinking of correct game) which would of been released around same time they planned to get warcraft adventures out.

Good. Riot games is a terrible company and deserves to fail.
