Jake only does like 4 damage now with his combos lmao, good luck if you main him
It sucks so bad that they did this. They were my TWO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ main characters and playing them now is just not fun at all. Every attack and movement is so slow and impossible to aim compared to beta gameplay. I'm not saying Velma wasn't a little OP, but compared to other characters, she didn't deserve this much of a rework. Not being able to aim her beam is criminal, and the lack of homing chat bubbles makes her effectively useless at any range.
Jake is just not the same. It's like seeing a friend go off the wagon and sink deep into a drug addiction. Depressing. Jake was so fun and had so many options. He never felt overpowered, and learning to play him effectively was a fun challenge in itself. As the game is now, he's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless and his skateboard bounce is so hit-or-miss that I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. His horse ability is comically slow. It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horse and it moves like a sloth going half-speed.
The whole game really feels like a chore to control now, and once you're up against someone who has a spinning attack that has hitbox priority (Finn, Taz) you just don't have to speed to escape from it. And when/if you DO escape from it, both characters are fast enough to catch up to you and do it again. This kind of spam wouldn't bother me if I could counter it like I could in the beta.
"But they had to rebuild the game from the ground up"
First off, no they didn't. They ported it from one version of Unreal to another. The codebase and blueprint system mostly carries over from one engine version to another. Sure, there are differences, but these differences wouldn't have effected things like move speed and gravity. Those are intentional variables set by the programmers. Second off, skill issue on the devs part. They had a year to get these variables for speed and damage (And camera zoom) back to where they were, assuming they actually DID start from scratch. (They didn't.) Unless this was done by a team of less than 5 people, I just don't see that as a valid excuse.
There is no solid reasoning behind the negative changes that have happened between last year and now. I'm hoping the devs see all the criticism and give some form of response on the matter. If they say "We hear you and we want to make the game the players want to play" I will happily keep supporting them. If they say "We have no intention of changing the game" then I'm uninstalling and removing from my account.
Just waiting for the inevitable Twitter post in one direction or the other so I can either enjoy this game again or get it the ♥♥♥♥ out of my life altogether.
But Velma...poor girl, its barely playable right now =/
