Pascal Performance?
Hello! GTX 1080 here.

I’d like to ask if anyone knows what the deal if with performance on Pascal GPUs, as in, why is it not good.

Now, I know that this game just came out and that my rig is dated, but given that this originally came out in 2018 and I don’t use ray tracing, I was hoping for something better. I would like to know if anyone is having the same issues as I am, and if so, what the reason for it is.

I seem to be well within the recommended specifications, which GForce Experience also seems to think, as it optimizes the game for max settings + upscaling. However, whenever I play the game, I get FPS drops every time I walk in the streets, and when just going about swinging. Does anyone else have the same issue? (Or, am I to assume that this is an intended feature? Like "You drop to the ground, your FPS,drops to the ground as well!" kind of thing?)

The neat part is - no matter how low I go with the settings, it stays the same. The only improvement I saw was when I turned hair down to very low, since before that going to FEAST was unbearable. And yet, my GPU utilization stay at 70-80% all the time. My CPU is at about 60%.

I am not looking for miracles, just a stable 60 if it can be achieved. Right now seem to be somewhere between 50-60, and 45 at worst.

I am on a laptop with a GTX 1080 - only about 10% weaker than it’s desktop counterpart, I’m told - i7 8750h and 32 gigs of ram. The game is installed on an SSD. And I won’t be getting a new PC, thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you!

I'm running it on the desktop GTX 1080 Paired with I7 4790K and 16 gigs of ram.
For the most part the game runs somewhere between 70-110 in combat, cutscenes and closed spaces.
The fps drops dramatically when I start swinging through the city, can drop to around 45-50 but as soon as i stop swinging it runs back up. It's heavy on the CPU and I think a good patch can optimize the shaders compiling a bit better when swinging through the city.

Interesting. Could it be that Nixxes are inexperienced when it comes to dx12? Btw, what is your CPU/GPU utilization, if I may ask?

Disable CPU Hyperthreading (or SMT for AMD cpus), people are reporting this to fix the CPU issues.
I have tried myself and seen a huge improvement, now the CPU is actually being used and the game runs at a much higher framerate and almost no stutters.

I can now have RT on without having framerate drops due to low CPU usage (bottlenecking).

Good to know but not really an ideal fix. I think I will wait till they patch it.

Yes, but until they fix it it's a nice workaround, I doubled my framerate doing this.

I tried it and I think that it helped... Still had to lower vehincle/crowd density, though. Would like to know why they put the i5-4670 in recommended if they knew it would be so CPU heavy.

Guess it's my CPU, then.

Use FSR 2. I'm using an old Dell t3500 workstation with a 1070. I'm running it in 4k ultra at 30fps with FSR 2 in quality mode.

i7 7700K @4.7GHz
GTX 1070 TI @ Stock speeds
32GB DDR4 RAM
1TB EVO 860 SSD

Runs mostly above 60 FPS except when i am swinging during certain parts of the city. Then it can dip into the low 40's, eventually. I run it at @1080p with a mix of High and Medium settings.

The game does seem to suffer from degrading performance the longer you play it. Most likely a memory leak.

Also, i think as you further progress through the main campaign and more stuff becomes available around the city (Side activities, collectibles etc.), that too has an impact on performance due the visual effects. I think this was an issue on the PS4 version too. Mind you, it's been years since i played that version.
