This is not the first time I have heard of Xbox wireless controllers creating issues. As a matter of fact, a few years ago - I switched over to using a hardwired Xbox controller for this exact reason.
I haven't grabbed a PS5 controller yet to test that. I have had no framerate issues but i could be brute forcing it since 3080ti/5800x. 4k max, ray tracing max, dlss quality.
I had the same input problem, which only occurs on my 8Bitdo Pro 2 Controller, not the Xbox One Controller. I fixed it by manually editing the dead zones of the triggers to start the input around 10% press in the software editor.
Using an Xbox one controller with wireless dongle.
If I have the controller connected when I load into the game the fps is low (30-40)
If I start the game and load in without the controller on or connected I get around 60fps.
I can start and load the game with the controller off, then once it has loaded into gameplay connect the controller and it runs fine.
I tried it, no difference on my end, even CPU-GPU usage is the same.
- Are you using the old big Xbox Wireless Dongle or the new smaller one?
- Did you install the Xbox Accessory app and update both the dongle and the controller?
That well could be it.
