I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean here. Could you help me understand, please? I don't know about Nvidia game filters.

He means nvidia freestyle. If you have the nvidia overlay enabled in gforce experience when you press alt+f3 you get a filter menu. Its like reshade but its nvidia filters.

Thanks! I'm not aware of that feature. I'm slightly familiar with ReShade. I haven't used any kind of gaming filters before. I'll check it out!

Are you running Windows 11? That would make sense, since that settings menu doesn't look like mine. I don't have that option in Windows 10. The game just told me HDR can only be turned on in game if it's turned on in Windows.
That is the Windows 11 settings screen. Auto HDR was briefly available in Windows 10 Insider Preview before the development branch was used as the basis for Windows 11.

Yes, turn HDR off in game and let Windows handle it with auto HDR.

Thanks, but I don't see how Windows can handle it w/ auto HDR when all I've seen is a toggle button to turn HDR on or off. Am I missing something? HDR is a new-to-me thing. I believe I can turn it on in some games and it will automatically on in Windows.

When I turned off in game HDR, auto HDR automatically took over and instantly everything looked better. I'm using Windows 11.

If you have on in both I found that if you adjust max HDR range in game you'll hit certain numbers where the washed out issue clears right up, I'm not sure if it has to be set to the number in the pre-launch setting or if its something else, but after playing around with it a little I hit the sweet spot and it's working well.

So have both on and in game adjust the HDR dynamic brightness or whatever, not the "brightness" setting but the lower of the two and you should find it will clear up once you hit the right number. Mine was something like 953 atm.

When you mean "HDR dynamic brightness" do you mean "HDR Max Luminance?" That refers to nits. My monitor has 300, so that's what I set that setting to. I didn't really notice a difference adjusting that, although the lowest setting is 200. I have brightness at 50. HDR makes the game look a bit washed, I think. The city looks a little foggy, although that could be realistic. I think I like HDR off. I've read it wasn't implemented well in Windows 10, so that could be my problem.

Wow, that looks like HDR is off. I haven't seen the city at night yet, though. I'm on Windows 10, without the auto HDR feature. It seems like that's helping people. I haven't read much good about Win10 HDR.

Ya that's what I mean. I took another look at it and it seems there's some odd way that it's coded where in the pre-launch settings I have it set at 980 (just picked it as a trial with above midrange increased whiteness) but in game I have to have it set at 983 to have things clear up and look right. It will be a different number for you but it seems there is a disparity in how they coded it that nudges it out of place. It was washed for me at first, so I do know what you mean, also the game has a bit of a soft lighting by default so unless you have ray tracing I assume it's only going to get as clear as I have it. But it is a night and day difference when you hit the sweet spot.

Thanks for all of this! I'm learning and playing around. My RTX is coming soon.

How many nits is your monitor? I assume setting above my monitor's max wouldn't show any difference.

For those who don't know:
Win+G > Settings > Gaming Features > Adjust HDR Intensity

And yes, it does look much better than the ingame HDR.

Which filter(s) do you recommend?
Color and detail, increase sharpness in details and turn of tint intensity in color, looks brilliant!
