WHY is this game stuttering? Are there any proper solutions?
My rig:
CPU - i9-4900HX
GPU - Nvidia RTX 4080
RAM - 32GB
Storage - 6TB
Windows 11
This game was functioning fantastic with absolutely NO issues. This last update makes this game just about unplayable. What did these people do?
Are there any viable solutions?

Still can't get a fix for this. I updated my NVIDIA drivers, tried various graphic settings in game and got nothing for it.

I did that too. Did nothing. As far as what the developers state, the info on these forums and other places online, I believe I've covered all or at least most steps and settings. It's absolutely ridiculous they would do something like this, especially so far down the life of the product. I appreciate the input though.

This a gaming laptop right? How are your temps? I have a 12700k and a 4090, 32gb ddr4 on an nvme. Try turning amd frame gen on (In the nixxes titles specifically i have found that amd gives a smoother apparent framerate). I have found in both spiderman games that I get basically perfect frametime and it's almost always locked to 119 fps. With nvidia frame gen I got weird visual "noise

I have also found that with the two spider-man games and ratchet and clank, locking the fps to 100- 120 gives the smoothest experience. I have a 240hz oled and in these titles I get wild framerate fluctuations which doesn't look as nice as just locking it.
u need to revert to the previous version, it work perfectly

Yes, it's a gaming laptop. My temps are good while running the game. I've done the frame gen on. The most I would get, would be some seconds of smooth gameplay (about 10 to 30 seconds worth), then right back to stuttering for a bit, then smooth, then stuttering.

Yup, that seems to be the only option for a resolve.

There is also this mod which gives spider-man high cpu priority. I noticed it helped a lot with random drops

Make sure you do NOT fill your main drive. You need plenty of space for shaders.

I appreciate the input, though I have PLENTY of space left on my C: Drive (1.5TB free) and on my Steam install drive (1.4TB free).

RTX4070 + R9-3900x + W11...
I'm on a 4K, 144Hz (GSync capable) monitor so I'm using GSync. I'm using:
- near max settings (I forget)
- DLSS Balanced or Performance (one below Quality)
- FRAME GENERATION (getting roughly 100FPS average swinging)
(so no frame cap)

This seems to have worked out great for me. I'm RESTARTING the game, for reasons, as soon as I figure out how to do that and see if I have other advice.

In Horizon Forbidden West I ended up setting my own manual FPS cap in NVidia Control Panel as that seemed to work out best. But Frame Gen for me seems to work best so far here.

First get the game running SMOOTH, if possible, at very LOW quality settings:
a) ensure GSYNC is working
b) Reflex ON
c) VSYNC ON (yes)
e) Settings very LOW (Temporarily.. ray-tracing OFF etc)
f) DLSS
g) Frame Gen off
h) Dynamic Resolution scaling OFF

You can experiment with a manual FPS cap (NVidia Control Panel) to keep power in check (and fan noise) but first you need to get the game running smooth.

I've settled on NOT using frame gen, and Dynamic res seems to have issues.

*Game for ME is very smooth, just minimal stutter. RTX4070/R9-3900x. Getting 70FPS minimum swinging around. (I believe I'm slightly CPU bottlenecked)

Thanks for the suggestion. After applying those changes, the game does stutter less, but still stutters. Absolutely ridiculous that they would do something like this and not correct it. I also tried going back to a previous version (at least I think I did), but that did nothing.
Photonboy Aug 5, 2024 @ 4:20pm
You say "do something like this and not correct it.." BUT, the game is mostly SMOOTH for me so I'm really not sure why it's not for YOU.

It's hard to say if you're in the minority of people with issues or not.
(update: I meant I don't know if the people having issues are in the minority)

1) Are you using GSYNC? (I'd assume so)
2) what is your FPS?
3) HOW are you capping that FPS? (i.e. NVidia Control Panel, or it's just uncapped etc)
