the same goes for last of us part 1,i don't care if the face has changed or something else. I never played.
Same. I didn't play on the Lamestation so I didn't see the first face he had. The face he has here will be his "original face" as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't mind seeing a Toby face mod though.
People who played the Lamestation version maybe? *shrugs*
People care because it changes the feel of the game. The depiction of the protagonist is important because they're a proxy for the audience in the story.
The original Peter face model was great because he just looked like a regular person: not particularly handsome, no distinguishing features. You wouldn't look twice if you passed him on the street. It made him relatable, and fit into the idea that Spider-Man could be anyone. That at the end of the day, despite his extraordinary powers, he's just a guy trying to get by while dealing with his responsibilities.
It's obvious that the game was far more successful than Sony could have imagined, so naturally the execs had to step in. No doubt they had some focus-tested brand marketing data suggesting that your character has to look the same in all forms of media to promote audience crossover and attachment. So someone at Insomniac was told to make a face model as close to Tom Holland as they could legally get before they had to pay him anything. Cue the devs releasing some non-statement about "finding a better match" for the voice acting.
Remastered Peter doesn't even work well in the context of the story. At the start of the game Peter has been active as Spider-Man for 8 years, yet the new face looks around 12 years old. By the end of the game we learn he's going to be a mentor to Miles, but they look around the same age. It's clear that the new face does not fit with their original artistic vision.
Original Peter's face fits the character as a whole given the background/history for Peter and his spidey career.
Exactly.
