People have said, disable HT and SMT, thinking that's a placebo thing.
Others have said turn off Ray Tracing.
Just a confusing mess.
Kind of this. I think the port is pretty solid considering it launched just 8 days ago, but it has technical issues. Memory leaks, heavy CPU utilization, and so on.
In this case, with you running everything at medium at 1440p with no ray tracing on yet still only getting 40 to 50 fps, I would imagine it's your CPU. Your card is enough to handle it and I assume that you have 16+ gigs of ram, but if you're running your Ryzen 5 3600 at only base clock speeds of 3.6 Ghz... you're going to have some trouble. This game is CPU heavy. It uses the CPU to handle crowds, traffic, real-time shadow compiling, assists with ray-tracing apparently, and I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel's Spider-Man was making it bake cookies too.
Personally, I used a mix of Intel turbo boost and my motherboard settings to get all my i9-9900k cores at 4.7 Ghz and that really helped stabilize frame-rates. I also increased the power going to my CPU and case fans via my BIOS in order to avoid temperatures throttling my CPU. Ironically, increasing settings helped too; it forced the game to shift more things to the GPU, I think.
I'm generally at 60 fps with an occasional fps drop or two when I swing close to the street (the load on your system gets much heavier at street level), at least for the first half hour or so. Then memory leaks start hitting me (some people think the leaks are tied to switching between the menus, and some people think they are tied to ray-tracing. I bet they're probably tied to both. :-P ) and I'm doomed after an hour. The game gets stutters and sudden frame drops to 40fps or lower, and I have to quit out of the game and restart.
So... yeah, I don't think I helped very much. Sorry! Anyone know if there is some Intel turbo-boost equivalent for AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPUs? The specs online say they have a max boost clock of up to 4.2 Ghz, so I know he has room to OC. I just... I'm an Intel guy. Not familiar with them.
Edit addition: the really fun part? My GPU utilization is generally around 80% max and my CPU utilization is generally around 40% to 50% max, and I still get frame drops when I swing near the street. :-P Technology is a cruel mistress.
Is your ram set up with dual channel? Is it at the proper speed? Make sure you downloaded the latest drivers as well, a no brainer but it doesn't hurt to remind people. I'm honestly astounded at how people can be getting bad performance out of this because it's running so incredibly well even for me. The only time it dips into 50-60 FPS is when I'm web swinging through the city and a lot of assets are on screen at the same time.
Also take a look at your CPU usage, and I mean threads usage not the whole CPU.
If one or more threads reach 100% there's your answer, CPU bottleneck.
It doesn't matter if you see 40, 50 or 60% total CPU usage, it can still be a bottleneck.
I have dual channel set up, I tried using MSI Afterburner and the Ram boost, but both made my computer crash, so i have them both turned off. Latest drivers are downloaded, but yeah I'm still only getting 50-60 max, and thats at medium, anything higher and it dips down to the 40s. Right now my CPU usage is around 80%, but i haven't really been looking at each core, will update after playing for a while and test that.
You also could be hard set to 60 by the launcher and the software mismatching as you can change the graphics from either the options and/or the launcher
I am double checking in the launcher. G sync is not on, Refresh rate set to 165hz, v sync is off, DLSS off. Anti-Aliasing is on TAA. Otherwise its default medium setting.
