[HELP] Launching game causes PC to shutdown abruptly
Launching this game triggers my anxiety.

Rig:
CPU - Ryzen 5600X
GPU - Gigabyte RTX 3060 Eagle OC
RAM - 16 gb (2x8) 3600 MHz XMP on
PSU - 650W
OS - Windows 10 21H2

Note: No manual overclocking except for the XMP memory profile and the vendor OC in the GPU.

So here's what's happening. I go to my library launch Spiderman remastered.
A Spiderman remastered menu will appear. Now, upon clicking play there is a high chance that the game will abruptly/instantly shuts off my computer - similar to what happens when you unplug the computer while it's running.

This has become very frustrating.
I tried turning off Ray Tracing, locking framerate to 60Hz, even went as far as setting to DLSS quality but to no avail. I'm only at 1080p resolution.

I can't blame it on my PSU because this setting on average just eats up like 65 Watts from the gpu, 11 Watts from the CPU. temp of gpu is AT 45c. temp of cpu at 50c.

For reference, I'm able to launch God of War at Ultra settings with fps locked at 80 (locked it at 80 for a smoother experience). This consumes around 150W of power from GPU alone.

What I have observed is:

1) Once I boot windows 10 then I immediately go straight to steam and launch spiderman remastered. There is a higher chance that it pushes through and I'm able to play the game for hours.

2) If I play other games first or browsed the web or do other stuff before playing/launching spiderman remastered, most certainly my PC will shut off abruptly.

Any thoughts??

I'm having the same issue, i was playing it just fine last night now it just freezes my pc and shuts down.

Don't know if it help and its probably not even related but,
my PC used to shutdown itself too but only a few minutes AFTER I stopped playing Borderlands 3 or Horizon Zero Dawn (seem to be those 2 games only) However it turned out that my power supply was faulty.
Do you have all driver/OS updates?

Do you have any program that is able to show you temperature of your components like MSI Afterburner?

disable rtx and if you have gsync dont use vsync. Use vsync or gsync only. This fix my problem with crashes and system restart. RTX is broken in this game!

look in event log, for errors. Such as WHEA, that means something is going on with CPU, and it will tell you which cores are giving issues.

Does your pc shut down while playing or while starting the game?
Currently i only experience this issue upon starting the game. Havent had any problems while playing (in case the game successfully launched/started).

Hmm haven't experienced any issue after playing the game.

With my current setup, im able to play marvels guardian of the galaxy, god of war, diablo 2 resurrected, ghost recon wildlands, forza horizon 5.

Right now, only spiderman remastered is instantly shutting off pc upon launch from time to time.

Just curious, how were you able to diagnose that your psu is faulty?

OS update is good.
GPU driver also the latest one from nvidia.

I have msi afterburner and but for spiderman remastered i use hwmonitor just in case the afterburner overlay is the one causing the issue.

With my current settings, spiderman remastered runs at gpu temp of 45celsius and cpu at 50celsius. Gpu power is around 60 to 70 W.. which is a very light load. Im able to play other games with gpu power consumption of 140W to 170W like god of war, fh 5, marvels gotg.

Thats why im ruling out PSU problem at the moment.

Rtx is already off.
Vsync is also off.
Capped the max framerate at 60hz for lesser power consumption.
One thing i havent tried is to turn off steam overlay and geforce overlay.
But it sucks to pay for a triple AAA game and turn off these things because it might be causing the issue.

Let me check and look for that WHEA. But so far in the windows event log, i only saw critical error saying something about kernel 41 which doesnt really give that much clue.

Shotgun approach to troubleshooting:

Update MB BIOS to last version.
Install latest AMD Chipset Driver
Do a CLEAN install of NVIDIA Drivers -- select custom install and select remove previous
Verify Windows install integrity.
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
    sfc /scannow

This should fix most problems.

It's a power surge that your PSU isn't handling properly, if you run HWiNFO64 on the side while the game is running in a window you can observe that "power deviation report" gets down considerably the very moment you launch the game, it doesn't happen anywhere else after that. The game is using full available resources during those seconds. So yeah, try a different PSU and it should be fine.

So here's what I did just now.
I downloaded and installed HWINFO64 and used it instead of CPUID HWmonitor.

I cant locate the "power deviation report" parameter.
Anyways, after setting it up, decided to try and play spiderman remastered.
I was anxious that my pc will lose power again once I click "Play" BUT it didnt this time.

So I checked the logs in HWINFO64, max CPU package power logged = 11.164W, Ave = 9W~ at average CPU clock of 3.9GHz~.
As for the GPU, max GPU power logged = 103W~.

If you did this and it didn't help, it's probably a faulty PSU.

Will probably research more about BIOS update. I havent actually tried updating the bios version on my own, because i heard it's delicate thing to do.
