Stuck with just one single save game. No other save slots are available

I could not find a single topic regarding this issue, so here it is. Yesterday it was the second time I opened the game and I realized that the selected difficulty was just too hard for me, but I could not create a new game, there were no available slots at all. Also I could not delete the current created game. Somehow I was stuck and forced to play from that save file.

Though I found a solution. I had to go to the saves folder, copy the existing slot0-s.save file, rename it to slot1-s.save, and that somehow did the trick. I opened the game after that and finally I was able to see all the available slots and I was able to create a new game and delete the old one.

On the main menu you should be able to switch profiles, with a Xbox controller it's B but look in the botton right corner to see what key you need to press.

When you have multiple profiles/saves then it will prompt you to select one before getting to the main menu.

If you go into gameplay options, you should be able to change the difficulty there at any time with no penalty.

The only time it will REALLY matter is if you are trying to do the "beat the game on ultimate difficulty" achievement, at which point you won't want to change it.

Edit addition: I hope I don't come across as rude. You can also get different save slots at the main menu by selecting a different profile at the main menu.

When you pause, scroll down to settings, and click on Game, you can adjust the difficulty at any time.

I never tried making a second save during my playthrough, so I don't know if manually saving in a new save slot from the pause menu would replicate your solution. However, once beating the game, you are presented with all of the save slots and can make a new save, make an NG+ copy whenever, as well as having Ultimate difficulty unlocked.
