I think OW2 being 5v5 is kinda better in a way because with less players comes more individual onus, the ability to carry your team increases, your contributions are weighed more heavily etc. Also has the benefit of demanding only 10 players vs 12, which means for every 5th game, OW2 would be up an extra game. Kind of a useless/petty thing to point out normally, but with the matchmaking being as bad as it is atm I think it's worth noticing.
I think Gunevo has an opportunity to prove that Blizzard's scummy business model doesn't have to be implemented for a game to be successful. Only problem is, Bamco might as well be as bad if not worse for stuff like that. It's really a shame.
As for balance and what not I think the game is in a somewhat okay state once you get used to what each of the units do and what their limitations are. There's just a few really obviously bad apples like Exia which should be reeled in a bit, especially the infinite range projectile that does absurd damage. There's no way that's fair at all by any stretch.
I think balancing is a moot point if the game suffers from disconnect issues plaguing the average game (someone almost always gets hit). The other big problem is that there's basically zero sense of progression granted by the game. Yes, playing the game itself is the point of the game, I won't argue with that. Players want to be able to grind out their account and unlock units as they spend more time with the game though, that's part of the reward of investing time into the game. As it stands there's practically nothing to show for your time invested besides your battle record. It feels bad for most players outside the hardcore straightedge crowd that refuses to acknowledge that the vast majority of players like to feel rewarded for their time spent especially if they lost.
edit: so yeah I would have to say OW2 at least is the more effectively complete package for the time being. Maybe bamco can fix this sinking ship sure but who knows.
Gameplay wise I definitely think you can make an argument
I do agree with most of your points, especially about a game should make you feel rewarded for playing it. While I still think GunEvo is the better game in terms of gameplay, understandably people go to OW2 because it’s more stable and has its branding to back it up. I don’t hate the game I just don’t find it brought much to the table to separate from OW1
This is fair I mean hopefully with the console release and the expansion of servers the player base will be able to sustain itself
With that said OW2 does have the much higher polish and the playerbase behind it that especially if I queue for support I can be in a game within a minute. Obviously the stability of OW2 is much better, while I've only ever DC'd once from Evo one of my friends I play with gets DC'd at least once every night we play.
Overall I prefer to play Evo but OW2 is easier to get games outside of the busier hours.
OW2 is better balanced, better polished, less buggy, its the all round better game, the ONLY thing this game has going for it is the fact that it has gundams in it
If it never had gundams in it nobody would be playing this
Sorry my guy OW2 is definitely not better balanced. The game has been unbalanced since the addition of Brig and they still can’t balance their game. They’re out here nerfing genji but think Soujurn is in a good place. Balance wise GundamEvo is definitely better
Its still better balanced than evo, and evo has less moving parts to deal with lol
Nah that’s where you’re wrong Evo is definitely more balanced than OW. In Evo any suit can win any fight against any other suit as long as you a) you know how to play them and b) know the strength and weaknesses of the opponent suit.
However in OW if I Genji blade and go for a support I can’t kill that support if they’re being pocketed by the other support which is fun. Also Zarya and Dva are incredibly unbalanced and Sorjurn is miles away the best DPS in the game. While the only broken suit in Gundam Evo after the nerfs I’d say is Exia
