Can I get an Anime reccomendation?

Never actually watched any Gundam Anime other than the old one that used to play on Toonami, some Shonen where he'd scream 'Shining Finger', but I want to give the franchise a go. Whats a good one?

Ideally all of them except Gundam Build Fighters since thats just sorta gunpla fighting. Its entertaining but its not my kind of gundam.

Frankly ignore the people saying OG 1979 gundam first, its a bad experience if its your first series. Even the movies should be pretty outdated by nowadays standards. Story holds up but the rest is jank. Its something i would recommend if you like some gundam series already and want to experience the OG that started it all.

Some good ones for new watchers and no knowledge of other series needed:

A lot of people saying not to watch 0079, but if you want to start with Universal Century you should do exactly that. Start with 0079, enjoy it for what it is, nevermind the jank.

If you don't want to do that, go with an alternate universe show, I recommend Gundam 00 for first-timers.

08th MS team and Gundam Thunderbolt are good and easy to watch if you want to get into the universal century. For Gundam in general watching Iron-Blooded Orphans is probably the best entry point to see if you'll like Gundam as a show at all, it's easy to watch and follow. Most fans are going to tell you to just watch the original, which while is still really good in most regards, it looks pretty bad; like the animation is simply old and not much of a pretty sight.

Watch Gundam Unicorn, you don't really need to understand any of the other series to be able to still enjoy it. And the production value is top tier, looks great to watch 10+ years later.

The first battle as an introduction to that series is one of the most beautifully executed cinematic scenes I've seen in anime ever.

Iron Blooded Orphans is the best written Gundam show so far. It manages serious themes, excellent action, a varied cast with relatable motivations that doesn't devolve into one side being plainly evil, and doesn't have magic psychic space pilots. It also has no ties to the other timelines or 40 years of cruft. 50 episodes and you have the whole story.

08th MS Team is a good, short series that can serve as an introduction of sorts to the UC timeline if you want to run down that rabbit hole. Gundam Unicorn can also be a starting point, just be aware you're actually starting near the end of the timeline and will be going back if you follow up with other UC shows.

Gundam 00 is a fun watch, with an excellent first half. I found the second half to drop the ball, though. It's still fun, but it becomes more of a standard shonen anime.

If you want to get in on something new and experience it with everyone, The Witch From Mercury just started recently. The prologue episode is phenomenal and sets up a pretty interesting story with some beautiful animation.

Do not watch SEED. It's ♥♥♥♥. It's trash. It's garbage. It's really, really bad. It's generic anime.
Watch some early UC stuff like the OG and Zeta, ZZ is bad but itt leads into Char's Counterattack which is good. 08 MS team is great. War in the pocket is also good. I'm honestly not a fan of all the newtype stuff so I lean towards early UC series, but people like Unicorn.

always recommend the original , if you look at it objectively despite how old it is it holds up amazingly well, its put together properly, and does amazing world building and it likes to keep things consistent . furthermore if you see all the little touches they put in despite their low budget. Quite frankly anyone who dismisses original gundam because of it being old , simply does not deserve your time or recommendation.

On a side note almost everything UC flows forth FROM the original and the concepts introduced in it. everything else gets better from seeing the original 79 series, A lot of the OVA's from that era are really good hand drawn animation as well. People recommending spin offs? go bonk yourself on the head for being a normie.

Most of its gay, re build divers and the original gundam series is where to start, I would just start in chronological order.

If you want to learn about all gundams very quickly. Just watch gundam build divers or tri fighters.

G gundam. Ms team, stardust. The rest of the shows are good but have some serious caveats to them and are considered somewhat controversial (like the original 0079 series which was unpopular enough to be put up for cancellation when it was first airing and ended up getting shortened as a result; I love that show but I can't recommend it without warning people about dated production values and a certain last few episodes development involving an overly pure and hypocritical lady).

IBO's second season was just so bad. I don't know how people can recommend it without mentioning that the second season is a mess of empty plot lines, enforced stupidity and a complete rewrite of how things went during season 1 (i.e the media is under the villian's thumb... except that didn't work in season 1 so why does it work now?).
