I miss the PS2 days, Journey to Jaburo was rough but fun, Gundam vs. Zeta was so slow and such a slog but it had it's charm. Battles in Space was great at the time, though, I think with all of these I'm remembering it all with nostalgia. They all had their faults. But even the PS3 Crossfire was fun in it's way. Anyone remember how much of a pain it was to control your guys in Zeonic Front?
But I'd love a game that doesn't make you feel like you're piloting a robot with built in lag, with controls so bad you have to use an auto-aim just to hit anything, that still fits into the story some how. Instead it's Gundam Battle Operation, which combines all the things I hate about the old games, clunky controls, slow pace, with the grind, loot mechanics and in game currency nonsense. EA would be proud. Literally the best Gundam game to come out in recent memory is the One Year War mod for HOI4.
I love Gundam, have for years, but this does nothing for me.
That being said, this game isn't meant for me, or the OP, and I know it. It's not a Gundam game made to appeal to shooter fans, it's an esport shooter made to hopefully draw in Gundam fans.
Gundam still doesn't have a mass appeal as far as I can tell. A lot of my nerdiest friends have no idea what Gundam is or is about. For so long it was just the shows, the models and games you had to love Gundam to put up with. I think they are hoping a shooter that mimics popular esports games will draw off some of their casual player base and bring them into Gundam, rather than trying to appeal to fans of the traditional media.
Maybe one day we'll get a remake, and translated Giren's Greed, but I think we're in for a lot more of this.
Honestly my biggest issue with reception to this game is that people don't even read the dev blogs, or look at later gameplay outside of a trailer before they call it ♥♥♥♥
I'm sorry you feel that way, but critique is not trolling.
Formula =/= success. Let's all just meditate on Metal Gear Survive for a little.
You're blowing my mind here.
I forgot about that one, but yeah, even something akin to Star Wars: Squadrons with ground battles would have been better than corridors.
