Like the game care about the lore. Critical hits being in the head instead of the cockpit etc
In the intro cinematic Mahiroo blocks Zaku II's axe with it's heel. We aren't going by any sort of logic in this game.
Because you want to be invincible, got it.
Most suits have a way to deal with a melee unit. Pale Rider and Zaku can grenade and then gun them to death. Sazabi can axe. Turn A can grab and stun. Guntank can dash and punch. The transformers can literally just fly away. Gundam can hammer. Etc.
Also, Zaku Melee has a move that disables your shield. So even if shields worked against melee, a Melee Zaku can still punch your shield away instantly.
