I just went on to check it out and you can't cancel a building project, but you can disassemble the building. its in the lower left of the build menu. Then you go next to the building and it will give you the option to do so. You only get a small portion of your building materials back. So its wise to make sure that is the place you want to build in.

The inability to cancel a construction seems like an easy-to-fix early access oversight.

This became an issue when I built a River Dock and construction workers can't access points that ended up in waist-high water. I'm gonna have to do the entire construction myself I guess (which is gonna be really tedious).

I believe I figured this out the other day. If you have placed a building, bring up the building menu (B) and click dismantle (or what ever it was called), select that building and mark it for dismantling. If that wasnt the way I did it, then the other way was through the building management.
I will try 2 confirm how I did it yesterday as it was the third or fourth building me and a mate had doubled up on at the start during a 8.8 hour initial game session XD
