Confused about this character (SPOILERS)

Eel Barnes.

I'm not sure I understand, was the real Eel dead during the whole timeline of the base game? Was the one we rescued in the Breakout fake from the start? Or did he get switched along the way?

He's not mentioned at all in Anti Escape Island, even when they acknowledge people back on campus - but even during the final level with the Quanty showdown he kind of fades out of existence. And, Escape from the Past doesn't seem to cover what became of the real Eel.

It is never really explained in the game that's why we are both so confused about it. After all it's not a game focused on the story, but more about the gameplay.

How I see it though, it's that Eel Barnes is actually dead during the whole timeline as you said, and Quanty created a robot and told everyone, specially Sandra The Headmaster he was "alive" just to trick all of you

After all, you can see that, Once Eel Barnes comes to the academy, he instantly takes the Head of it and starts to make Tests and escape rooms that are life threatening for people. Even Sandra says she doesn't recognize him... before desappearing mysteriously.

Which is of course explained by the fact that it is Quanty the whole time
