Not Launching on Steam Deck?

Launched and played it just fine last night, tried again today and the game gets stuck on the opening screen with the logo in the middle. Tried verifying game files, moving the game to the internal drive, closing the game and restarting the console. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

As Grumpy Old Man stated, downloading Proton GE from the Steam Deck desktop mode, and then launching the game through it worked for me! Not sure if it'll work for everyone, but I highly recommend trying it.

I'm having this same issue this morning after an automatic update applied. The only game I can get to play is Sonic Mania. All games I'm trying to play are verified. Everything just sits at the spinning logo. Desktop mode will just quit after trying to sync steam cloud.

We've heard about this issue with a couple of users since the automatic update.
We're looking into it, but don't have an ETA for a fix just yet. Sorry about the issues y'all </3

black screen forever with escape academy launch on the steam deck. played it a few days ago just fine.

I was having this problem too - just switched to proton next and it launched.

edit: nevermind, it launched but then crashed and I haven't been able to get it to load again. :(

ditto here. hanging on initial load, black screen. sometimes it loads to the title screen and lets me select my save, but then it gets stuck on the next black loading screen, with the theme song on loop. i have yet to be able to reload a save.

Any resolution on this issue? I played 90 minutes last night and am trying to play today but it keeps crashing on launch. (Steam deck.)

I'm having this issue too. I was able to play it once about 2 weeks ago, but ever since when I try to load the save it just hangs and freezes.

Similar issue here. I played it a couple of weeks ago no problem. Today it freezes on startup until Windows kills the process :(.

UPDATE 2: Re: weird pixel shift/flicker on external display:

Solution: DISable V-Sync, which is the opposite of what is expected in most such cases... switching Proton versions did not seem to have any effect on this issue.

UPDATE: A new weirdness.

Works fine on internal display but connected to TV via official Steam Deck Dock, there is now a weird pixel shift/flicker... Does not affect anything else on the Deck including the Performance overlay for example which remains rock steady?!?

While testing different things, I found out that Proton Experimental works as well (though with the same glitch still) but that means it's easier for people who don't want to go through the process of installing Proton GE via the Desktop.

P.S.: also almost forgot that I'm on the *Preview* channel (since I haven't run into any other major issue)

FYI, as of the time of this post I have been able to launch & play EA, using GE-Proton7-43.

I see a 6.2KB patch has been downloaded & applied very recently.

However, when I reset the Compatibility to the default settings under game Properties, it still seemed to hang (or at least take so much longer than ProtonGE that I presume it was hanging)

YMMV but for now at least I'm able to play using Proton GE.

Having the same issue in the main post here - worked great on day 1 (a few days ago), wouldn't open on day 2.
