2 is just mind-blowing, personas after 3 are totally different games in terms of gamedesign.
I can see why they wouldn't bother with those games because there is so much that would be very offputting now - there are the random battles, and grid exploration is clunky, and there are no (real) social link equivalents, and it doesn't have the "one more" system for weaknesses, and there's nothing like the calendar downtime, and negotiation can be tedious at first. On the other hand, there are things you can do to make your experience with P2 more enjoyable, like making use of Estoma (no random battles with low level foes) when exploring, or eventually figuring out more negotiations.
I agree that a full blown remake would be a lot of work, but I feel like they'd need to do *something* to ease players in a bit - even if it's just pop up text box hints about how to enjoy it's antiquated gameplay.
I decided to finally play P1 and P2 for the first time and I finished P1(PSP).
So far in P2:IS(PSP), while I am enjoying the game, the battles and demon contact systems are both extremely slow compared to P1.
Battle system for example even with skipped animations turned on, the game will wait for the damage to display and then wait for the damage number to fade away before moving on to the next attack which would then repeat the process.
AoE's don't make it that much better either, it'll display the damage one at a time instead of all at the same time.
I found myself constantly using the emulator's Speed Up constantly for P2:IS.
