Can't detonate talismans for some reason?

Using the play station controller. Says that applying talismans and detonating them is used with the Right bumper, the R1 button specifically.

I can attach them, I see internal damage appear on enemies, their health bars turning partially purple, but then I press and HOLD R1... and nothing happens.

Nothing's happened with that since the tutorial explaining how talismans were supposed to work.

Is this a bug?

Sounds like you are double tapping r1, once to place and once to detonate? It's actually a single button press. Pressing r1 does the dash to place it, which has some movement utility on its own, and you can optionally hold instead of tapping to detonate it after the dash.

Make sure you don't let go of R1 after you've tagged an enemy. When you push R1 to dash through an enemy and tag them with a talisman, just keep holding it until it explodes; if you let go of it after the initial dash, you'll lose it.
