You may recall that ARC Raiders was announced as a free-to-play game. Today, we announced that ARC Raiders will be released as a $40 premium title. There are many reasons for this change, and they all boil down to our conviction that a premium business model is a better fit for the type of game we’re building. A premium model allows us to create a more focused, balanced, and engaging action-survival experience.
The paying upfront is not the real issue. It's the fact that this game which was said to be a coop PvE looter shooter, is now a PvEvP extraction shooter. The games potential player base has instantly been cut down to at least a 1/4 of what it could have been. One very bad business decision always leads to more bad decisions. The proof is in every other game that changed direction and genre before even releasing into EA that has failed miserably. Fool me once, fool me twice, never again. Gamer's have had enough of these BS decisions that ruin potentially great games. Of course there will be monetisation in the game, it will come later after release, once it's confirmed that the player base is not even close to what the studio was hoping for thanks to the genre switch.
Your post seems to be totally unrelated to OP but that aside the wishlist numbers are rising not declining since the announcement of going PvPvE so your claim that potential playernumbers are cut down to at least 1/4 of what could have been is not reflected in the statistics.
Looks more like a vocal minority to me.
They tested a couple of prototypes internally and this iteration is what they had the most fun with. Fun is the best compass for creating games imho.
Not the minority. I am in total agreement with the OP. It will now be a PvP cheat fest.
