Anyways to at least leave this comment on a positive note I saw Helldivers 2 is a horde shooter that might be more your thing.
Perfect take on the events and decisions leading to the switch. I played it can't wait to see what they do with it.
Did people watch this video? Cause I did. Embark admits they didn't know how to make PVE Arc Raiders fun, and that they couldn't make two games at once. So basically what we are getting is Embark moving over to reusing what they know as ex-Dice Battlefield devs. Bland PVP.
They thought that the world would make PVE players come along. We aren't. I ultimately just don't trust Embark. Bellular in trying to help them, hurt them severely. He shows in Embarks own blog post where they admit that they didn't know how to make PVE enjoyable in Arc raiders. Now let's all use our logic caps shall we.
Why did Embark show the game at the Videogame awards? Why did Embark say it was coming soon and to wish list it. Embark didn't have a game down but wanted to hype something anyway, or did Embark know they couldn't sell another stale PVP game? At what point did Embark start thinking, "hype gamers with one thing, then switch to another."?
"Internal testing says this is more fun."! Sure it is chief.
I've already moved over to Enshrouded. Enshrouded is a PVE survival game with all sorts of elements. No, PVP is being worked on for the games release. Force Gamine just covered it. Go read the comments in Bellular's video, the aggregate are crapping all over extraction shooters. There isn't any hype in the comments for the new Arc Raiders, that is with all the chicanery Embarked used to try and get PVEr's excited.
Out of respect for Embark I just won't post Force Gaming's video on Enshrouded. That is more respect than they gave me as a potential consumer. But, what I will show is this.

Almost eight-hundred thousand subscribers. Thousands of people talking about how disappointed they are at the change, saying the game is something not worth their time anymore. Right... right, PVP all the way man. PVP will definitely keep this game going. Just like the Cycle. LOLs. PVP just made it D.O.A
Deuces.
to be honest. gameplay looks pretty stale. Maybe thats why the put in the pvp aspect ...
And even that looks boring. Compared to the jetpack jumping and open crazy looking combat of the original PvE gameplay. I feel the PvE would have been better if they just focused on that. This clearly has the look of a game that switched mid development. Not sure how anyone thinks or can say this looks more fun.
The devs themselves said they couldn't find the fun when prototyping the pve mode. So while the cinematic trailer looked cool, making it work in game was probably not viable. The alpha was a blast. Was really solid for an alpha build. Can't wait to see how they build upon it.
Since its f2p I ll give it a shot. Maybe it turns out to really have fun with it :D
bro you hit the nail of the head. 98% of ppl complaining have not even played the game and are commenting on crappy videos released out of NDA. Ok it's not the game you were getting hyped up about but no game will ever be what you hype it up to be. The switch just gave those people a reason to complain because their excitement dwindled. I was the same way but I played it with some friends and I had a good time with it even though I'm not really a fan of the genre. Reserving my final judgement for the finished product as I feel the play test was just a slice of pie in terms of content going on in the matches and that was enjoyable for me and my group. I have my reservations just like anyone but that is my default for any game released in these times. This is new and there's no reason to kill it before it even launches, which most of the flamers are currently trying to do it seems. "I don't like that genre so we must destroy it for everyone else" it's giving crybaby energy. I will happily have a discussion with people over the complaints but if you've already wrote the game off then what's the point, it won't help the game development.
