Redout 2
Anyone else think the OST in Redout 1 was just better?
Title says it all really.

I think the work from Aram Shahbazians was the special touch that twisted Redout 1 from a great to fantastic game.
I feel like this OST is just... Generic and "safe" feeling most of the time, But im a big electronic music nerd so maybe thats just me.

the Ost of Redout 2 lacks Identity, personality. you can notice that the composer did not play the game. if you want better music for a game then the composer should play the game while its beeing develped. thatway they get a better feel for how the soundtrack could fit in what senario
lacking personality is really my biggest issue. i don't think red out 1's ost was like godlike or anything, but it definitely was worth keeping the bgm on. there was more variety and each track lent a unique energy and vibe to their associated tracks. it was more in your face and i still remember how a lot of that game sounds even after all these years.

Neo Tokyo in particular felt like a missed opportunity, it just sounds like high bpm noise. Not bad for racing, but it doesn't feel like there's anything memorable to latch onto in there.

Unfortunately, something happened and the composer of Redout 1 cut ties with 34BT. I don't know exactly what, though. His absence is really noticeable.
Yeah, I wasn't really expecting them to be able to top the soundtrack of the first, because it was that good. The music definitely works in this one, especially the tutorial song (still stuck in my head now), but it definitely takes a back seat to the sound effects this time around.
The OST is a bit underwhelming when racing because all you really hear is the beat, the details get lost.

Listen to the OST by itself and it shines WAY more, I absolutely love it... especially Mazzella's tracks. He is the standout here for me!

Ya he stole the show cause he made tracks that fit the game, But it still pales compared to Redout 1.
I's just a matter of preference I say. There are plenty of tracks I love in this one but my top ones are still On my own, You will burn and above all Arabia terra from the first game.

I actually did this and it's kind of amazing how much of a difference it makes. It really isn't that bad at all. I still prefer 1, personally, but 2's is pretty solid when it's not being drowned out by the warning sfx and the hull regen humming. Kind of unfortunate, but it is what it is.

This is exactly why I turned SFX volume down to 80% or so, because I noticed right away that the music was very quiet by default otherwise and most of its details were being drowned out by engine noises.
You're playing it on PC. Sub in your own music and enjoy. I'm personally going with a glitch mob mix.
They uploaded the whole soundtrack to YouTube and I noticed that my favorite songs--as in the only songs I remembered--were all by Zardonic. Shoulda had the dude make the whole thing, honestly
I didn't played the new game yet, but a listen the soundtrack at Youtube and I totally agree. The soundtrack in Redout 1 is one of the best I ever listen, specially the incredible "Heat and Havoc". Unfortunatelly, the soundtrack in Redout2 looks like lacks of inspiration... (sorry for the bad english).
I think the problem is that the tracks are too mellow. totally miss hits like Sub-zero Sonar, Heat and Havoc, Conamara and Subsurface. Then again, with the attrocious game progression design they have implemented, I have only raced in I think 3-4 locations, I do not think I have had the chance to listen to that many tracks.
I like to race on the boss mode mostly so I only get to hear the same track everytime for each location, so now I just put on a playlist of my own to listen to when I play.

My only complaint is that they went on about the good music in the game when its pretty average. Sure the composers are amazing and there are a few good tracks, but I felt let down with the music. Don't get me wrong, R2 still has a nice soundtrack but its a bit underwhelming compared to R1.

It feels like they got a high when they got these great artists to create the music for the game that they forgot to make it as good, or better than Redout 1's soundtrack was.
I was pretty disappointed by the soundtrack when I first started playing, but at least some of the tracks are growing on me. Mars Memorial and Tartarus Mines I think are the best 2. Some of the others are okay, but I think the biggest miss was the music for the Fuji complex. It is forgettable and just doesn't fit with a racing game IMO. And quite a few other tracks are fine, but forgettable. Sure, RO1 had some misses too, but overall that soundtrack was far superior. The majority of it was memorable (sometimes for the wrong reasons, looking at you Sequoia.) Nothing surpasses the two Neptune soundtracks from that game IMO.
