My RedOut 2 Starter Guide
What started off as simple tips grew into full starter guide, so feel free to include your input and help your fellow racers.

1. Drop (mostly) everything you know about RedOut 1

All the muscle memory you had develop over the years of playing RedOut 1 (mostly) don't apply here. Driving physics, braking, cornering, and boosting all need to be relearn from scratch, but If I were to compare it to RedOut 1, it's like every ship now come equip with Augmented propeller and Magnetic stabilizer passive powerups while the boosting mechanic is similar to the Turbo boost active powerup.

Love it or hate it, everything feels overall quicker and more responsive, also boosting accelerate you faster than before, but you also deaccelerate faster and unable maintain high speed for long, which make boosting more important than previously... speaking of which...

2. Boosting and track memorization is key

The game does teach you the advance boosting tutorial both early and later in career mode, so I'll be brief. You have your standard boost (just like in RO1) The hyperboost (RO1's Turbo boost powerup) and now you can combine them both simultaneously which will rapidly overheat your ship.

The whole entire game revolves around boost management and the right time to use the hyperboost, which is why track memorization is more important than the previous RedOut. (especially now all the combative powerups like EMP Blast and Energy drainer are gone... As if anyone online use those powerups really..)

My best advise? play arcade mode against the A.I. to learn the track layouts. It's worth noting the tracks in this game are WAY longer then the previous RedOut. Like the underwater tracks (which BTW are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!) can take up to 2 mins per lap. Mastering these tracks and knowing when to hyperboost will be no easy task.

3. Mess around with the settings and crank down the A.I. difficulty

In fact I don't recommend the "RedOut" A.I. difficulty setting for beginners. Lowering the difficulty down to Pilot or Chill for a more fair challenge... or down to Zero if you just want to unlock more parts in career mode. When you're start feeling more confident with the mechanic and track layouts go ahead and bump the difficulty up to RedOut... Nightmare difficulty is just stupid...

Unfortunately, the difficulty setting doesn't affect time trials and speed challenges in career mode. For those I recommend revising them once you acquired more upgrade parts.

4. Don't be afraid to use AI assist

In fact, I think it's integral to the main racing gameplay. Just like real life GT3 racers using driving assist like ABS and Traction Control System (Don't debate me on this). Would've it make sense in the far future racers would be using complex AI driving assists? I think so!

In the start of your career mode the AI assists wouldn't be much help since your ship would be moving so slow. it would be a good time learn how brake, pitch and strafe without any assists. By this point all the corners are nearly flat out with little braking and strafing involved, however soon you'll start acquired more upgrade parts and game's pace will start to pick up, requiring quick reflex and skillful maneuvering, during that point you almost have to treat this game like a racing sim. You will have to start braking and strafing nearly every corner. This is where the AI assists come in, to help you brake in those hard to react corners. (especially in the lava tracks).

My recommendation is to use custom AI assists with braking and strafing assist set to either 30% or 60% (30% for slow to mid speed class, 60% for high or Arcade mode ships.) Increase the Flight Roll assists if it helps you. (I personal don't like midair rolling) Also set the Boost Safety to 5%. There are no reason why not to use this. It save you from accidentally killing yourself. so yeah... just use it.

Well that all I got for now. I'll include more here as I progress through career mode and online races. Feel welcome to include anything or correct me if I wrong.

Pleases be kind and remember racing is a gentleman sport!

Cheers!

In the options menu. Will be locked until you get the first 3 turorials and class B promotion race completed. The game will auto-calibrate the assists based on your first race, but you can freely change them after.
