Rules from the google doc
You’ve already seen the best of the best race. Now, take your first step to become one of them! The Rookie Cup is aimed for those relatively new to Redout 2 and/or are nervous about participating in online racing. The veterans are already well catered for when it comes to competition. This is here to nurture new and upcoming talent.

Participation
Pilots who are interested in taking part must demonstrate that they have a Redout 2 playtime not exceeding 200 hours at the time of signup. Proof of this is required - a screenshot of said playtime, along with the time and date the screenshot was taken at. This screenshot can be sent directly to me on Discord - @rokinath - or provided in the specific tournament thread on the Redout Discord. In either case, tag your message with #signup for ease of identification. If you have accrued playtime over multiple platforms, I will require proof from each and every one of them.

Failure to provide this proof in a timely manner will invalidate your entry to the tournament. Lenience will be shown for people just over the playtime threshold. Once signups have closed - June 6th @23:59 UTC+1 - participants are free to go over this playtime limit in order to practice on the tracks featured in the tournament.

This should go without saying, but smurfing - the act of creating and playing on a new account to be matched with lower ranked players - is strictly prohibited. If I find anyone doing this, I will expel them permanently from this and any future event I may host.

Happy with all that? Great! Sign up here.[docs.google.com]

Format
On 14th June, 20:00 UTC+1 - AKA The Weekly Wallgrind time - there will be 8 races, run at 2 laps each, utilizing the first four environments to provide a less intimidating, yet still compelling racing experience. 2 tracks have been selected from each environment to create the following tracklist:
  • Rainbow Forest F
  • Path of Wonder R
  • Qasr Al-Nile F
  • Tahrir R
  • Faith Town R
  • Perseverance F
  • Sisyphus F
  • Ixion R
All ships are allowed to be run in this tournament, however the power limit is at 700 and there is a restriction on parts. Pilots are allowed only yellow and green parts, with the option of including a single pink part in their build, as long as the total build does not exceed 700 points (with a 5 point exception given because of a minor bug).

Signature parts are banned, and any contravention of the above shipbuilding rules will invalidate your points haul in each race until the issue is rectified.

Shipbuilding
You are not restricted to a single ship or build for the entire tournament (unless you want to!). Part of the Redout 2 experience is tinkering with builds to find an optimal one for each track. The tracklist seen above has been picked to challenge players and their builds in different ways. You can run as many builds as you want as long as they all obey the shipbuilding rules.

While a 5 point exception is made for ship builds, there will be zero exceptions made for anyone at 706 and above.

Qualifying
Once you have signed up, you are allowed to take as many qualifying laps as you see fit. Qualifying will take place on Neo Calima F - submissions should be submitted in the tournament thread that will be specifically created in the Redout discord, and should be tagged #qualifying for visibility. Laps must be set in ships adhering to the building rules outlined above.

Qualifying ends on June 13th, 23:59 UTC. On race day, pilots will ready up on the grid in order of fastest qualifying time. Those who do not set a time will be automatically relegated to the back of the grid in alphabetical order.

Overflow
In the event that there are more than 11 participants, they will be split as evenly as possible between multiple lobbies based on their qualifying times - i.e lobby 1 has 1st, 3rd and 5th fastest racers, and lobby 2 has 2nd, 4th and 6th. Qualifying times will still be used to dictate grid positions.

These multiple lobbies will continue up until the end of the fourth race, where points will be counted. Racers with the lowest points across all lobbies will then be eliminated until there are only 11 racers remaining to form a single lobby to conclude the remaining races, so fight hard!

If there is a points tie between players competing for the last spot in the lobby for the final 4 races, then the method of tiebreaking will be a 1-on-1 race on the qualifying track. No points will be gained - whoever finishes in front is making it through.

Points
Points will be awarded for each race, depending on finishing position:

1st > 2nd > 3rd > 4th > 5th > 6th
10 > 8 > 6 > 5 > 4 > 3

7th through 11th place awards 0 points.

The pilot with the highest point total at the end of the 8 races will be crowned the winner!

Conduct
While there have been conscious decisions made in the format of this tournament to ensure it provides an exciting and intense competitive experience, there is no room here for disrespect. We’re opponents on the track, but at the end of the day, we’re all part of the same community. Be kind to your fellow pilots, gracious in defeat, and humble in victory.

I don’t need to elaborate more than that. If you act disrespectful during this competition, you’re out. Simple as.

Prizes
1st: £25 Steam Gift Card
2nd: £15 Steam Gift Card
3rd £10 Steam Gift Card

F.A.Qs
Q: 200 hours is considered ‘rookie’? Seriously?
A: Yeah, sorry. I mean, I could say how Redout 2 is a game with a gigantic skill ceiling - and it’d be true - but the truer excuse is that I had meant to run this tournament when the latest patch was first released, but life got in the way. I still want to capture the people who joined then, as well as anyone who has joined since that time.

Q: I have 200+ hours but I haven’t played the game in ages! Can I join?
A: No. I already feel I’m being generous enough with 200 hours of playtime, and I want to keep the requirements as simple as possible to prevent hair splitting like this. Do not despair - in the future I will do an ‘intermediate’ tournament for more experienced, but not elite players. This future tournament should be what you prepare for.

Q: How do I take a screenshot of my playtime and the date?
A: So the easiest way to do this would be to have Steam open and maximised, with the tab showing Redout 2 with the time played. Then, hit PRT SCR on your keyboard and paste (ctrl+v) the resultant screenshot into the relevant channel.
Third party capture software like ShareX can also be used. Photoshop and its equivalents are not allowed, simply because it blows the doors wide open on people forging their playtime. By the same token, please do a full screen capture so I'm more convinced there's been no editing shenanigans.

Q: No console play? :(
A: Not at present, but if you have the hardware and are willing to champion the cause, then DM me.

Q: What if I can't get the parts to achieve 700 power level in time for the event?
A: The tournament date has been set well in advance to allow people who are extremely new to get to this point in their career. In the event you are still unable to get this far, there is a completed save file you can download on speedrun.com. If you take this route, I do not accept any responsibility for your game breaking or your satisfaction of progressing through the career being spoiled.

Q: Is Discord participation necessary?
A: The whole point of this is to grow the active community, so ideally yes. Come the day of the tournament, I want to have people in a voice lobby so I can more easily coordinate start grid procedures. You are not required to talk if you don’t want to.
