What's your ship/build/? You should have unlocked Conqueror by now and if you've done everything else in this bracket, you should have the 8-TE propulsar. Top speed is a strong stat in the early game which makes Conq shine.
I took the liberty of recording a demo run of this event with nightmare AI using the Conq with the following build: 8-TE | CIRR | SVTK | YI | TLGA | AGIX. (All of these parts should be available to you at this point in the career).
Take the left path at the start as it's faster overall. You will be upside down & gravity will be pulling you up, but as long as you boost it like I do, you'll have the momentum to fight the gravity. I'm assuming you're playing on a lower difficulty, so just try mimicking my boost pattern/placement and you should be able to run away from the AI.

If you have any other questions, feel free to add me & ask away lol.
NOTE-
just did the race with the ship you reccomended and didnt even need to watch the video to absolutely domanate the track
I DONT GET IT
AHHH the campaign has a ton of flaws
Power rating doesn't really mean much as it's just the summation of the individual part ratings. The build itself and stat placement on the grid is what matters. Conq has 10% top speed over BMOTH which lets it run away in the early game. I'd stick with Conq until you unlock Buran. You can move to Sulha if you're able to handle it, but if not, stick with Buran until you unlock more parts. The other ships are kind of underwhelming during the first half of career until you can kit them out properly.
Helix. It's an agile lil thing that has a small hitbox. Good for barrier vaulting in order to take shortcuts.
Yeah, it more than makes up for it's slightly lower top speed through its combination of high durability and decent thrust. It should let you boost for quite a while and the boosts themselves carry a lot of potency.
