Any way to completely remove the borders?
Other collections had it, Im scratching my head why there is no option to disable it

Edit: I made another post on it but ill edit this one so its at the top

So I don't like borders in retro games, so there is a program that is generally used for artist that is called PureRef and its to have a collage of images and you can make it so its always in front of every window.

1. Download PureRef ( https://www.pureref.com/download.php )
2. Download a black image (this one from wikipedia will do https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/49/A_black_image.jpg
3. Open PureRef and you will see a small grey box appear. Right click in the box -> Mode ->Always on top. Open two instances of the program for each side or four if you want top and bottom.
4. Drag your black image into the program
5. Inside of the game set your Display Mode to Borderless
6. Rezise the window of PureRef by just moving from the border (also you move the whole square with the right click)

Yes it irks me this much, but i thought I share in case anybody has the will power to do this lol

Steam/steamapps/common/MegaMan_BattleNetwork_LegacyCollection_Vol1/exe/data/exe.dat/exe/data/bg/

They're 01.tga through 10.tga (you can get here with 7zip or similar programs)

If I edit them at all, it basically "erases" that one and defaults to the next one, even the slightest change such as a single pixel. If I outright delete them, it unfortunately leaves a sort of bright grey border instead of a black one.

I thought I was about to fix it, but I'm no modder so this is about the limit of what I know what to do. Not sure if it has some check in place for these images or what, but if we could figure out how to edit these images without it skipping them, it'd fix the issue!

(Also the thumbnail doesn't update, so I assume thumbnails for the backgrounds are stored in a different location.)

Okay so basically here are the steps I figured out by messing around to get a pure black border
Make a copy of exe.dat in case something goes wrong
Rename the exe.dat to exe.zip and then extract it so you can go to the bg folder
Get a program like Photoshop that can open .tga files
Open the .tga file you want to replace and make the entire picture pure black
When you're done export that file with the same file name
Now go back to that exe.zip file and open it and look for where the bgs are
Delete the bg you want to replace
I use winrar so I used the add feature to find that new .tga file to add it in the zip
Once done rename exe.zip to exe.dat
Lastly replace the old exe.dat with the new one you just made
When in game go to the background you just changed to see the result
Works with both volumes, the only difference being that the bgs are name 1-10 in 1 while in 2 it's 11-20
Hope this helps

I hate that so much, it's even more distracting.

Just finished poking at this some more. I'm not sure what exactly the game is checking for. I learned how to add a bunch of junk data after the end of a jpeg's EOI tag, so I was able to inflate the file size to the exact byte value with junk using HxD. But that didn't do it. Then I figured it might be a CRC check so I got a program called crc manipulator to force it to the right CRC (had to resize it again first since it adds a few bytes of data) but even with the exact (packed) file size and CRC it wouldn't display anything.

I learned some new super basic knowledge and had some fun but am kind of sad that that really is the extent of my limited abilities. I'm sure the dedicated modders will have far better luck.

To fix things turning into a link check Formatting help for the noparse tag.

Thanks, didn't know that was a thing!

I abused the tags a bit to make them visible.

Probably the same reason all the typos are still in the game.

I like the roll background but I don't want burn in what...
Are the backgrounds good looking though?

Matter of taste. I think some are good, most are ok and one is bad... assuming you play with the game screen set to "Largest". If you make the playable area smaller, the backgrounds are all distractingly busy. Granted, idk why you would play with the playable area small enough for that to be an issue, but it highlights the fact that a plain black background should have been an option.

It is not only distracting, but if you have an OLED TV it will be probably enough reason to skip this game... as you don't want to risk burn-in. I can only hope Capcom will release an update for black borders...
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

This, its straight-up bad to just have a static image in place for hours on end.
