Never mind the fact that copies of Sonic Mega Collection Plus are still readily available for dirt cheap and don't come with nearly as many issues as Origins does.
Not to be that guy, and definitely not to defend SEGA on that, that is kinda a big yikes to delist the games to push people into buying their new stuff, but that feels like a secondary matter to the game itself being any good
Same thing with me and Denuvo. If that's your reason not to pay for the game, then that's perfectly valid, but to bring it up in a conversation about the game itself just feels dismissive on the product that's attempting to be sold
The 16:9 mode is called Anniversary mode and has infinite lives and replaced 1 ups with coins that gives you the ability to retry special stages. Hedgemod manager offers the option to enable classic lives gameplay in anniversary mode.
If you want an updated version of the classics with those features then go for it, a lot of issues players have are nitpicks from hardcore class fans that have everything memorized and find changes game breaking but the average player isn't going to notice most of them or as you saw the inclusion of Denuvo. As of the most recent update there appears to be some major issues playing as Tails but I have not personally tested to see if those are for everyone or depending on hardware like some other issues. I personally haven't run into any major issues on complete play-throughs on 3 different computers.
If I was to spend more money on a product I already got (or in the case of those who didn't get them before, could've gotten) for cheaper, it's natural to expect the more expensive versions of the games be the definitive versions by default. Otherwise, people are naturally going to be disappointed and will happily express that disappointment as I and many others already have on these forums. It's one of the many reasons why the GTA Trilogy remasters got a lot of negative attention.
As for the people that already bought them in previous collections, it's an even harder sell, but not impossible. Not to mention Sonic 1, 2 and CD are also on mobile phones for far cheaper and come with a lot of the same advantages such as Tails & Knuckles in Sonic 1 and wide-screen, but without most of the cons of this collection alongside several pros of its own that these versions don't have such as a spin dash toggle for Sonic 1 and a Zone Select in Sonic 1 & 2 upon finishing the game.
Also, the reason many people bring up Denuvo into the discussion isn't due to the product itself, but rather how Denuvo works in tandem with the product you paid for. Many people have reported performance problems in various Denuvo games, hence why it gets brought up. The developer of Tekken 7, for example, even admitted that Denuvo was the cause of the performance problems with the Steam version of the game.
Compare how Sonic Mania was sold at launch compared to now. Many people experienced performance problems with Mania despite their PC being more than powerful enough to run it due to the game itself not being built around Denuvo, but since 2019 where the DRM was removed from the game, these performance issues disappeared almost entirely.
Yes, Denuvo is bad, I'm not here to argue that, but if that's the big crux of the argument as to why you shouldn't buy/play the game, rather than a discussion about the game itself, then it is absolutely being dismissive
And on the Sonic Mega Collection, that's for consoles I don't have immediate access to, and before you say emulate, it is a rule of mine to save that as a absolute last resort for games that can only exist through emulation
If Sonic Colors Ultimate didn't exist (take out the quality of it, that's a separate discussion) then I'd just emulate it. That kind of thing
Available as part of the Sonic PC Collection.
Still easily found on the second-hand market for dirt cheap online.
Works just fine on Windows 10 computers.
Keep in mind that the versions that were sold as part of the SEGA Mega Drive Classics did not use Denuvo in it whatsoever, so by default that is a fault of this collection.
I'd just emulate it anyway considering:
1. I already own a Wii copy of the game
2. I can get a better experience emulating my own Wii copy
3. Wii copies can still be found for cheaper anyway
If these companies actually want me playing their remasters instead of sticking to the ones I already have, whether through emulation or original hardware, they absolutely should be providing the best versions of these games possible. And yes, the quality does matter in this case considering that's the main reason I didn't buy Ultimate; same goes for Origins, 3D All Stars and GTA Trilogy.
It is a fault of SEGA because, not sure if you noticed lately, but they have been extra Denuvo happy, at least with their Sonic games, so it's more of a fault of SEGA just being scared of piracy for no real reason. Just Denuvo for Denuvos sake, really. I still don't understand why you insist on putting the blame for Denuvo on Origins when this has been a trend for SEGA for a decent while now, but ok
I literally said the quality of the remasters are a different matter. If they are on sale for a current console/platform, I cannot pirate and emulate in good faith. If the remasters didn't exist, all bets are off. Sorry, but that's just how I work
