Sonic 1 Spin Dash
Hey guys,

is there a way to disable the Spin Dash in Sonic 1? That's not how it worked back then...

Anyway the real answer is when you're at the title screen for Sonic 1 and Press start is on the screen press W,S,A,D, K on the keyboard or the buttons you set for Up, Down, Left, Right, Jump to bring up the sound test menu and turn off spin dash and select the level you want to start at.

Still can't believe this version requires using the level select cheat code just to disable a feature as simple as a spin dash for Sonic 1 when previous versions of Sonic 1, such as the 3DS and mobile versions, had this as a simple toggle you could turn on or off directly from the options menu without the need for a cheat code.

This ain't the mobile version and the option is pointless, if you don't like that spin dash wasn't an original part of sonic 1 then don't use it, crying about it ruining the original is just nitpicking.

This argument is so tiring and dumb. I want to play a game with the given rules. Imagine Elden Ring had a button to one shot every enemy and you just tell the players "just don't use it". Then why add any difficulty to any game? You can just play with your eyes closed or with a dance pad.

You're right it is tiring and the solution is as simple as that, you have to go out of your way to spin dash and there aren't even many places where you can use it considering the game wasn't designed for it so it hardly breaks the flow of the game. I'd be more sympathetic about the drop dash because that does make all the game much easier and can easily be done unintentionally but if you really don't have the self control to not spin dash if its mere existence boils your blood and ruins deep nostalgia then aside from the in game solution i've already posted you can just use the ultra fix mod or classic improvement mod to make origins closer to the original genesis versions.

Difference is that the way Sonic 1 is built, the spin dash is a lot more likely to get you to lose rings... or just straight up killed in 4 of the six zones. It's really only useful in Green Hill and Star Light where... you can lose rings or get killed by using it.

Sonic CD, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3 are all built around the Spin Dash and thus outside of certain zones(Looking at you, Metropolis), it's more beneficial there.
