Impostor Tongue damage oddities
On some ocassions Impostor Tongue goes -incredibly- high in damage done. Other times it looks much more normal and within the averages of the other weapons. Like a mere 125M done.

It feels there is something that scales it -very- powerfully.

It's multiplied by recovery.

Ive been taking all the recovery sources I can find.

You had Paranormal Scan in the attached video, which also scales recovery (and much more than most other sources)

Might be rng then, if the paranormal scan procs a LOT of recovery.

I thought that was the point, the damage spike coincides with sound effect that sounds like a wet bloody stab, so I always thought it was meant to be a "player kill" assassination that spikes minibosses in levels. It seems in theme with the Imposter's design and fantasy, but I never looked it up on the wiki to confirm.

The whole thing was that was uncertain what was the true scaling component.

Yet what happened here? I have all the recovery sources. Yet its quite low damage for Impostongue this time around.

Maybe it just wasn't hitting as many enemies before other weapons could.

Ophion, Photonstorm and Gorgeous Moon seems much more reliable for very high damage without being super-swingy like Impostongue.

I'm not seeing incredibly high damage in the screenshot though ?

In your screen shot one tongue is doing 625.9 K (six hundred twenty five thousand) , did you misread this as 625.9M (six hundred twenty five million) ? The other tongues are doing normal damage of 25M ( twenty five million).

I don't see anything out of the ordinary in the screen shot , one tongue is doing worse damage because it doesn't get a chance to kill anything , it's the one that attacks last so the other attacks hit first and do most of the damage.

As far as why tongue might sometimes do much higher damage , it can crit , it's scaled by luck and the tarot card Slash making it do 8x damage , so if you took Slash tarot on one run and not on another you might have seen vastly different results, also if you take paranormal scan and it scales your luck and regen it would also increase DPS.

I always take slash with impostongue. Just had a game where impostongue did 2.9G damage in a 30 minute run. The others was listed in M.

Its Critical chance effect multiplies its damage by 4x which is by default 5% chance, increased by Luck.
So everytime it prox a critical hit, it will effect every enemy it hits and deal enormous amount of damage.

Hmm I see , 2.9G damage is a huge increase I missed that part, if you take the same items each time but in one run it does drastically more damage there must be a random effect somewhere , like paranormal scanner giving more luck bonuses which gives you more crits and slash making the crits do 8x damage.

Or it might be a bug somewhere in how the DPS is calculated on the stats page , I've had a few runs where one skill seems to do way more damage than usual for no reason but the other skills are still doing their usual damage , you would think for one of them to be so much higher the others would naturally be lower than usual since the stronger skill is getting all the kills. (had it happen with Godai shuffle and Summon Night and I don't think those even get a crit bonus).

It might just be some weird bug , you could try testing it by not taking any crit stuff or slash and see if you stop getting those random big DPS numbers.
