Cant unlock the Yellow Sign

I have tried a few Moongolow runs with the whip character and the other one with double revolvers, whenever I get to the 14 min mark, red snakes start to appear instead of the boss I should defeat to progress into that maze level to get the Yellow Sign.
Am I missing something? Do I have to disable hard mode?
Im also playing on the new engine beta thing, should I disable it and go back to the og game?

Have you already tried once and failed?

I used the daggers guy and breezed through the level. Being able to actually kill all the lights and get food is what did it. No eggs or anything crazy, just beeline it to every light and kill as many as you can and it should be do-able.

The boss is simply not spawning, thats the problem...
Ill try again later, maybe I just got unlucky somehow

What character are you playing as?
None of the secret characters can fight the boss or go to the secret level.
