Red upgrade slots for power ups?

So I picked up a passive (after having a full list) and I'm seeing it with red squares, and it doesn't come up for upgrades. Is this supposed to happen?

That means you banished the item.
Probably did so on that run.

Red means it was banished, which prevents it from appearing from leveling up any further. You probably misclicked it without realizing.

The way the collection works at the moment is that when you click on a item to look at it it also seals it so be careful with that.

Wait. Sealed items can still come on the roulette?

On the roulette no but you can still pick them up on the map, you just won't be able to level them.
