I think the Co-op Coop joke was indeed their intention (especially since it was the first thing in the trailer for the update on Youtube) but I think it was more in the vein of the game's general sense of humor than an intentional April Fool's Day thing.

If they intended it to be one I think they would have had a teaser for it on April Fools day at the very least when they saw certification on consoles was taking longer than they expected. But even that theory gets tossed out because they had a brief tease of it in the Official Wiki announcement on March 13th.

The real joke in this is they released the same day this FREE DLC when Dave the Diver released a paid 7$ FOMO 40 minutes DLC.
