How to use a controller?
I ran the game with my controller (Xbox Elite) turned on, like I do for other Steam games that use a controller, but this game doesn't seem to work with it. I check options and there are no options for controllers. How do I enable support?

Is XBox Configuration Support checked in Steam's settings? (click Steam in the top-left corner of the Steam client, then settings>Controller>General Controller Settings>XBox Configuration Support.

If you have a Windows PC, and checking the box there doesn't fix it, it may help to delete any controllers in Device Manager and then reboot.

Yes, it's checked on. Xbox Extended is not.
I play tons of other games without issue nor need to configure anything (eg: Destiny 2, Fallout 76, Arcade Paradise, Gearshifters, etc)

You could try turning off controller support in Steam and letting the game's native support have a go.

Not sure if this will work for you, but make sure your controller is on/plugged in before you start the game. You can also try going into big picture mode (or the controller settings) first and then starting the game.
I was able to just plug in the Switch Pro controller and Steam kinda took care of the rest for me.

I had done that, but I went ahead and tried again and this time it works.
Thanks all.

After I switched to a controller, my gameplay took off. Being able to switch between "flowing" weapons like daggers on the thumbstick and "tiny-step adjustments" for focus-fire via the D-pad (same as WASD) on the fly is, I believe, the way it was meant to be played.

(Granted, this was on GamePass on XSX, which I literally stumbled into the morning after having played the Steam version until 1:00am... Just one more round....)

It is a strangely compelling game, despite terrible [old-school] graphics. I think the music is pushing the right nostalgia buttons for me, + some sort of vague Castlevania vibe!
