Same.. although I tend to get fire wand last and not being able to get it upgraded.
Because it's the only useful item next to Vandalier/La Borra?
La Borra clears everything around you, making Bible + Garlic useless, they won't do any sort of damage.
Vandalier clears everything in a large scale around you, making stuff like whip, Bible, Garlic, Spiral and Hellfire Wand useless as well. The only reason they get damage ticks is because they reach even further or hit during the brief downtime where Vandalier circles around.
So all that's really left is clearing things on the outside range, outside of Vandalier range.
For that, your options are death spiral (has gaps), hellfire (only fires in one direction at a time), Heaven Sword (RNG flight paths), Runetracer (will waste 80% of it's flight path going through areas already covered), Lightning Ring is the only thing that has a huge AoE and can clear everything at the edge of the screen.
Also, Lightning Ring is an early game carry like garlic, bible, whip or runetracer, once you can use it relatively well and control it with movement.
And finally, it scales with damage, cooldown and area. Which is basically what every single weapon in the game wants. There is no stat that scales with it that's wasted on other weapons.
Not 100% convinced, La Borra is great, since you pick Attracto always (imo)
but king bible seems still necessary for me. Will give Ligning Ring a try in the next runs.
And Garlic seems heavily overrated for me. It falls hard off in the late game.
Garlic is the best early game carry, but considered a 'Noob Trap'
King Bible is basically the 'Advanced Trap', because it's worse early game as Garlic (you can't just run into enemies and kill them, you actually do need to wait for it to activate and then have it go through enemies, where as Garlic is just run in and kill things)
King Bible is useful at around 10 minutes and falls off at 15 minutes.. after that it doesn't matter if Garlic or King Bible, both are useless if you build proper items.
But people that don't really understand damage/area coverage think it's great, because of those 5 minutes where it's really good.
The big difference is that King Bible is actually worse with area, because it doesn't hit anything inside the circle and thus a larger radius means if enemies slip close you're helpless. La Borra basically does the same thing as king bible does (pushback, permanent AoE coverage around you), except it also protects you and since all circles move toward you, anything that gets close to you gets hit by like 8x stacked areas.
Bible is no 'must build' item, you'll be 100% fine if you pick like one of the early weapons such as Garlic, Whip, Lightning Ring and just focus on building a proper build later on.
Lightning ring hits SOMETHING every single time, at any point in your playthrough, even if it has to smack something OFF SCREEN to do so.
That's not even getting into it getting benefits from spinach, duplicator, empty tome, and candelabrador, which turn it into a more than passable junk-mob clearing weapon that does damage on par with some evolved weapons (pretty sure it beats out the holy wand) to a fairly significant portion of the screen.
It activates often, it hits a large area, it does a decent amount of damage, you don't need to aim it, and it ALWAYS does these things no matter what is happening.
(it's also responsible for my first ever 30min clear, so I'll always just love it regardless)
Bible, Knives, Axe, Double Bird, Runetracer, Fire Wand
Duplicator, Spinach, Spellbinder, Bracer, Candelabrador, Empty Tome
You can replace Fire Wand with Magic Wand if you like that better (or RNGeesus screws you over), but i wouldn't recommend that as you already have a fast firing stream of constant damage with the Knives and the DPS is generally higher on evolved Fire Wand since it pierces enemies indefinitely.
Btw, if you didn't know: Dommarios stat bonuses take Runetracer (which is already insanely strong for an unevolved weapon) to the next level.
It can easily outdamage other evolved weapons this way and if Vandalier isn't taking the spotlight for once, you'll truly see what i mean by that.
looking at the stats after I die those items seem to do most dmg for me.
Skeleton guy is my second favorite. You just run projectile weapons and wipe the floor with enemies.
The lightning ring gets really really powerful if you upgrade it right and use a character who benefits from it. Upgrade it for duplicator, tome, candlebro, and maybe spinach, and then stick it on a character like Arca for an extra 15% haste and it clears the map rather well by itself.
Bible->Vespers (1.4k dps)
Water->La Borra (5.1k dps)
Axe -> Spiral (3.5k dps)
Vandalier (4.6k dps)
Fire Wand -> Hellfire (7k dps)
Runetracer (2.3k)
That netted 50,419 kills by level 125.
On rounds where I have had Runetracer and Lightning Ring, the ring is generally behind Runetracer. I will admit that I haven't tried stacking up a build specially for ring, mainly because it has seemed like a waste with runetracer hitting many more enemies.
Looking at another Green Acres run screenshot, with 45k enemies (level 132), ring came in with 1.2k dps (2.1M damage). I didn't have rune that round, got stuck with garlic but without a specialized build I personally don't think ring beats out rune.
