This one isn't motion sickness. I am extremely susceptible to motion sickness and this game is fine for me. I can't play FPS at all. I can't even play the FP RPGs.
If you insist on not seeing a doctor, here's things that help me with my issue...
Playing with lights on.
Making sure I'm facing the TV straight.
Not playing on a Large TV that takes up most of my vision and placing a large stationary object near the TV.
thanks for the advice!
And man, hadnt had problems with stuff back in the day too, but you get old and may develop conditions. Really would take the advice and talk to your family doc next time you see him.
Other games you play most likely do not bombard you on this scale with a lot flashing-to-red colors (exp bar, damage to enemies/numbers) or a suddenly grow-BRIGHT bombardment (chests). This is a big trigger for us sensitivity folk. Its why I wish I could skip the damn 5-loot chest as I have to look away from the game every time til its done with its stupid gambling-gimmick thing..
You do NOT want a bigger screen, that'll actually make it worse. :(
You will want to play with a bit more light on around you, maybe even to the side of you or behind the monitor. Even a dim light to even-out the light coming from the game does help.
You can also turn off the VFX and Damage Numbers in the settings. This helped me a lot. As I got more progress in the game and more things hitting EVERY enemy, it was the flashing enemy damage and numbers that hurt me the most. Turning those off did help and you'll still see your skills going off and the chest is still obnoxious so skip them either by esc key, right clicking with mouse, or B on the controller... except for the 5-loot chest which yup, just look away til its done.
I don't understand the brains of people who insist on so much flash and color sometimes.. must be nice honestly. You may not of had it before, but it was there.. VS is just really REAAAALLY bad at bringing those issues out, hence the warning before you start. Its a shame really.
I am still not 100% sure what exactly causes it, although there were settings in Paradise Killer that mitigated it. So I am relatively sure that you don't have some form of motion sickness and that it's probably light-sensitivity like other people are saying.
I have noticed the flashing in this game as well and it can be very harsh, especially late game or when you get a new chest. Hopefully you find a solution.
Trying a larger screen might make it worse though.
I know it's not the same problem than I have, but I had no problems with Mirrors Edge on my old CRT TV back in the day, but once I got a bigger Plasma TV I couldn't play the game any more because I got sick.
Motion Blur & Depth of Field are the biggest offenders when playing any kind of FP game. Turning them off can help a lot if you can. If there is a lot of motion blurs, especially while running, or a lot of zoom in/out (DoF) it can be really bad. Think of it like in a car.. car goes, stops, goes, stops.. thats Motion Blur/DoF combo when running/stopping. If a game can let you set a DoF its good to sit around 60-80.. take for instance Minecraft, 70 is normal and fine.. but some go QuakePro mode and watching them play like that makes me so ill. That weird depth of field and blurring edges with you move just urk no stop.
I can play games like Borderlands 2, Outer Worlds and Fallout 4/Skyrim alright so long as I check those settings off if they have/use them. If they're trying to be too damn fancy with camera whipping/motion blurs and no way to turn it off? Fullstop no. Anything that whips camera motions around are just a big urk.. Take a chill game like Raft. But then the waves start going (yay!) ... but then the raft and camera just go uuuup dooown uuup... the worst. Thankfully you can turn that off, but then you lose the sound of the waves so it kinda.. meh.
All this is when ya know motion sickness might be a problem for ya! Heh.. Fun times. Welp thats my little advice on the otherside of sickness with gaming.
Don't forget you grow older and the body will get weaker and more subsceptible for all kinds of problem cause of it.
Not saying it's a age related problem. But still. I have played leage of leagends back in the day and never once had the problem to follow what is happening on the screen. I came back several years later and i was drowning in everything happening on the screen. My mind is not able to follow so much "crap" at once on the screen anymore and i get a headache.
If you get muslce twitching you should absolutly visit a doctor as this has a high chance to be some kind of epileptic problem.
