Devs apparently hate Belmont's
So I've been playing Ode for the past few days and I'm really disappointed. The Belmont whips suck until they are upgraded. Very diappointing. Why make them so bad when they are the legendary heroes of gaming?! I hope they patch the dlc to no make the whips so random and weak. I'm not asking to be op but they shouldn't miss enemies 75% of the damn time.

Being fair, the whips in the source games suck until they're upgraded.

Goofy aah post.
The characters aren't supposed to solo everything with their default weapons.
Many of the best evolutions in the base game have mediocre starting forms.
The Castlevania characters shouldn't get a free pass just because they are from paid content.
TBF, 20+ new characters, so you'd expect some to be stinkers.

Just did the Alucard spear and it hits like 30x as fast as the whips so it constantly craps out its 7th hit bonus AND said bonus is a screen wipe while most of the whips bonuses just suck.

ok well i've used the base whip from Leon, the water whip, and the jet black whip. Leon's whip is the only good one so far and it takes getting it to 6+ and evolved for it to actually be good. The other whips you just sit there praying it hits something as you get hard swarmed. That's a massive issue. They don't have to be op but if I can't get xp because it's either a random hit so masses keep me from what few xp there is or just doesn't hit the enemy then yes there is a major issue. As far as I'm concerned they took a massive dump on the Belmont's.

Honestly the facts that the whips don't make the "top" 60 use cases for my Seals, except Sonic probably, puts them better than a LOT of the weaker weapons in this game.
And Wind Whip is legitimately just good, might be a top 10 weapon for practical use for me.

I've been using those whips and they work great , there are some whips I think are weak but you are complaining about things that aren't true , the whips you mentioned don't have targeting issues , you have MOVEMENT issues , just like the Original Whip in VS you need to move a certain way to use it.

Just to test it I just played using only a single weapon and the whips work fine (didn't even use silent old sanctuary for the bonus to single weapons)

The alchemy whip
This starts to hold it's own by level 3 as in you don't even need to move if you take duplicator or empty tome , even , it takes like 3 minutes to max out the whip , duplicator and tome and then you are cruising. At this point you start going to the red skulls and killing the bosses and the whip keeps getting stronger , is it too much to ask for you to actually PLAY the game for 3 minutes before you become god mode ?

Wind whip
is effected by Growth , so take Crystal Cries arcana or Crown passive item boom right at the start you get a strong weapon and you level fast so it keeps getting stronger , in 30 seconds you are level 5 and should have a few good upgrades like duplicator or empty tome and then all you need to do is break a few candles until you get an orologion , boom all the enemies are frozen and with Crystal Cries frozen enemies drop Frozen souls (blue hearts) which increase GROWTH recovery and HP , after killing a few enemies this way you become able to stand still and tank damage but you won't be taking much damage because Wind Whip is killing things quickly.

Dragon water whip
Wow I don't know what made you think this was bad , this is a very fast whip that hits in a quick half circle pattern even at level 1 , seriously how do you have trouble hitting stuff when it hits everything above you ? Are you seriously trying to rely on the dragon projectile ? Just ignore that , it's the WHIP that matters , not the silly projectile , this weapon like all the other whips works fine even at low levels. Move down while avoiding the enemies below you and letting the whip hit the big group of enemies chasing from above, EASY.

Sonic whip
Even at level 1 this thing shreds entire groups of enemies , it fires in the direction you are moving so just face the enemies while moving up or down to clear the whole pack , of course you could use the Crystal Cries method to freeze the entire screen and then clear them all for a massive boost but even without arcana this whip works great.

An example of a "bad" whip
Vibhuti whip
This is one of the whips I don't like , as a solo weapon it is slow and weak and hits in a small area , If you had used this whip in your post I would fully agree with you , everything you said about the good whips is actually true about this whip.

Vanitas Whip
Better than the Vibhuti but stills feels mediocre compared to the first 4. I don't even like this whip but it's still good enough to just sit there without trying and kill everything https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3359241170

For me, everything that fires in the direction you're facing is a bad weapon because it makes movement suck. Especially if it has a lengthy cooldown like Sonic.
Sometimes the evolution is actually good enough though like Millionaire.

Edit: And while I may say some weapons may suck, and it is true, even terrible weapons have their place in a game like this as a way to challenge oneself.
If something sucks AND it's boring, like that one just straight facing laser from the Contra DLC, that's different though. That thing is just a miserable pile of particles.

Dude. Julius is easily the most busted character of the entire DLC with his extra Might on HP loss gimmick. Give him Armor and the retaliatory damage arcana and you gain more max health than you lose health at all.

The others though, I do agree are a bit on the underpowered side. But it makes sense, somewhat.

Julius is canonically the strongest Belmont so this fits.

Sonic Whip evolution is the strongest weapon in the DLC, probably in the entire game.

I have had no trouble with the whips. Some are movement based though, so that might be what your struggling with. Overall their pretty solid weapons and some are great choices for starters/early weapons.

The weapons aren't actually bad. Leon's one is actually good if you manage to hit foes in front.
The Water whip is really handy when dealing with bosses. Just stay directly under them for some good dps.

Im more upset that none of the Belmonts spin their whips around in a circle constantly. Missed classic move, that even Smash Bros made sure to put in.

Some of the whips are at least better than the original whip, so there is that.

Now, whips will never make it to being starter weapons because they are, indeed, way too weak and don't bring anything amazing to the table. Even for the best of them with a mix of good coverage and damage, they are still inferior to weapons covering the entire screen, or firing fast enough with AOEs effects to do a lot more work. Even if you can get 20+ weapons in a run, which thanks to the Alucard Sword evolving into the shield and absorbing all of your evolutions, is now very much possible, you have wayyyy better choices when it comes to a mix between DPS/Coverage/Utility. Basically, the bar set by some weapons is so high that a lot of others weapons have hard type competing.

As such, whips are seal fodder. They don't even have the benefit of appearing on the map by default, which would justify at least unsealing them.

You get a lot more mileage out of the shuriken and discus. Those are actually very decent to good. The grenade isn't good until it gets a lot of upgrades, but the RPG is extremely potent and does a lot of damage on a large zone while also firing decently fast.

So yeah, whips are forever condemned to suck and being bottom of the barrel weapons.

Also, if you rely on weapons who force you to move in a certain way to make the most out of them, you are doing it wrong, as you have a lot of weapons who do better without forcing you to alter you movement scheme. And again, such things are only relevant for the 10 or so first minutes of a run at most. After that you shouldn't have to bother with it: You either have weapons wiping everything, or you itemise enough to have a constant supply of rosaries, spicy food, pocket watches and whatever DLC chars give you(grenades, fast firing, karma coin...). You don't have a movement issue, you have a weapon choice issue. And in that case, the problem is using a whip unless you are forced to by the character.
