mouse cursor
this is my first post, don't want to give the wrong idea. I have been interested in this for a long time and finally picked it up during the sale.

already unlocking achievments.

bt

this is a pet peeve of mine. . when a game dev doesn't bother to make the game hide the mouse cursor while using a gamepad.
how hard is it to do that?
i see zero budget free games that can do this, and yet so many devs fail to do this.

and given this games high profile and popularity and overwhelming positive reviews, how has this never bothered anyone else?

Can't you just... move it to the side?

This is an interesting topic to me, because this is something I've heard about a lot in an other setting. Basically, during streams or let's play of various games with a narrative element, there are people who are up in arms when the cursor is somewhere on the screen and just staying there. It's kind of an OCD thing but they just can't stand it, which has led me to be very careful to try to move my cursor away when streaming such games because I know perfectly it bothers some people. While others are completely unfazed by it and will barely or even not, notice it.

So no, you aren't the only one bothered by it, but the thing is there is probably at least one other half of the players who just don't care about it.

You need also to remember that in the event your controller has a problem, you will absolutely need the help of cursor-chan to actually fix it, even if it's to navigate the options to be able to make sure your controller works. Such are the realities of PC gaming. Now, there could probably be a way to make the cursor invisible until you move your mouse, or something along those lines, which should be a good compromise, you can always make the suggestion officially in the appropriate board if you haven't already.

i knew the very first response was gonna be "hurr durr, just move it to the side"

i considered preempting that in my post, but decided to wait and see,

that' does not excuse it, because it's simple coding, just hide the mouse cursor, and yet so many game devs fail to do this simple thing, even in highly rated games.

why doesn't this bother people more?

and in response to the second guy, yes, that's exactly how it's "supposed" to work. when it detects controller input, it hides the cursor and when it detects mouse input, the cursor reappears.

many "free" downloadable games do this. many other low budget indie games do this, but then, i have seen high budget games fail to do this.

i don't think it's unrealistic or unreasonable to ask for this.

Just learned to deal with it. Sure an option to permanently would be nice but it's not a "make it or break it" situation. It's both realistic and reasonable to ask for that option, give it a shot.

For me it doesn't matter so much because I run VS on window mode and listen to podcasts or w/e on the background so most of the time I want the cursor on.

It sounds like a nice QoL, but is it really a big deal? The cursor is exactly where you left it, that sure sounds more like your responsibility than something every developer must do if they want to add controller support. All in all it sounds pretty entitled to demand such a tiny QoL addition, especially when the player is already in full control of whether the cursor is visible on the screen or not. Asking for it is one thing, but demanding it is another.

you seem to be putting quite a bit of effort into arguing against this QoL improvement, but it's not an unreasonable request. i'm not some entitled karen.

The cursor is still visible on the side, no matter where you put it and it's a simple thing. if freeware games can do it, then a paid game can do it.
it's usually in these "windowed" games where i see this happening.

I never said the game was unplayable like this, just that the cursor thing is a pet peeve.
this is a standard feature that should be in every game, alongside being able to turn off vsync and rebind controls. these are standard features.

look, whatever. this is still a great game and that's why i finally decided to buy it.

it's gonna scratch that binding of isaac roguelike run collecting special powerups and crazy synergies itch i've been having seeing as i have 2k hours in isaac and pretty much got tired of it.

the point of me posting this is to hopefully get the dev to see it. maybe i did seem a bit rude, saying it was "inexcusable", but yeah, i know what the excuses would be "why should it be fixed, when you can just move the cursor to the side?"

i gave my feedback and i'm not putting any more effort arguing with trolls.

All I said is that it is not as big of a deal as you are making it out to be. I never argued that it shouldn't be added, only that you were putting an unreasonable amount of focus on the lack of this single simple addition. A QoL improvement like this would still only be a good thing, it just isn't something that always gets included right away due to not everyone seeing it as an issue that needs addressing. Also, you should definitely post this on the 'Feedback and Suggestions' subforum if you want this suggestion to actually be seen by the developers, this subforum is just for general game discussion between players.

Haha, good thing the mouse cursor doesn't move while using gamepad then.
Beside, if it did move, I wouldn't mind peeking the forums just to feast my eyes on reading people complaints heh.
Icedfate Nov 29, 2023 @ 12:01pm
ya'll need to look up what "pet peeve" means
Icedfate Nov 29, 2023 @ 12:33pm
as for posting this in feedback. .point taken

+1 this, idk why my cursor should be onscreen whilst I'm playing with controller. Just make it hide when it hasn't been moved for some period of time and a controller is being used.
Icedfate Mar 16, 2024 @ 4:29pm
for clarity, a pet peeve is something that shouldn't bother me, but it does. it's called "pet" because one nurses it like a beloved pet.

I know it's really a minor complaint, but at the same time, i see lots of free games that do know how to hide the cursor, so it can't be that hard to program that in.
