can't get this secret for some reason.

I've been trying to get this secret. I've gotten to him with both birds, not united. I've unlocked nearly everything in the game. The uploader of that video replied asking if I had beaten the director boss and I have. What else is there? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtfKfTGqI8k

You say you've gotten to him, but did you defeat him? because thats all you need to do once you find the correct coffin.

This tidbit might be helpful from the wiki, specifically after the piano part;
"You will find yourself in a dark area with large amount of Undead Heads and Undead Eyes and nine coffins. Travel around the area and find Avatar in one of the coffins (his coffin location is randomized). After opening the coffin containing him, all other enemies will disappear and he will start attacking you. Defeat him to unlock him in the roster. Once Avatar is defeated, the White Hand will appear and end your run."

Yeah I found him. I sat there for about 10 minutes whirling away at him. Considering taking another go at him with better targeted and/or higher DPS, like using something different than the Garlic.
