Is the crown a trap?
Allow me to explain. Playing a different game where you pick perks at level up I was taking a set that boosted exp gain because I want more levels for level up perks. I realized I was spending up to three perks in order to get parks faster. Spending something now to get more of it later is commonly called an "investment", which is often considered a good idea. However I didn't even know if the game would last long enough to pay it off. I'm putting myself into three levels of debt for future levels. But each level costs more exp, so if that % cost increase is even close to the % exp increase then I might never break even at all

Now here we are with the crown, and to an extent the attractorb too, using level bonuses to gain faster levels. My question is, if I don't need the crown as part of an upgrade combo or an effect that passively gains power from levels, is it pointless to take it?

I cant live without the attractorb, the conivience is simply too good.
Consider this: The attractorb also helps you leveling faster because you suck in more exp orbs more quickly.

I usually dont like crown, but it upgrades the prismatic missile into Luminarie. And Luminaire happens to be the primary weapon of Luminaire Foscari whom gets a REALLY good perk. Everytime Luminaire levels up, she releases a rosary effect to wipe the screen. Making her want to have Crown, Attractorb and as much curse as possible for when you wipe the screen for removing a huge load of enemies. You suck in the orbs, getting close to another levelup. Rinse and repeat ad nauseam.

Edit: My best superleveling have put me near level 3000 in 30mins without using eggs.

Edit2: Crown also have use when you need to level up characters to reach the lvl 80 breakpoint for many achievements and unlocks.

The crown does make a difference, but the time when you are going to get the most out of it is with a fresh save when you don't have many powerups unlocked.
As time goes on, especially if you have no issues with handling curse, the boosted enemy spawns from curse and charm can give just as much of a boost.
If you are just after insane levels, a single weapon run with the pentagram has actually given me the most levels if you stick to a stage where the bosses are vulnerable to instant death. You need to use limit break and arcana to do this though. You also need to evolve the pentagram. Blood Astronomia (XXI) allows you to cause damage, and keeping things to a single weapon will allow you to keep levelling up the weapon. This keeps triggering it causing the instant death and vacuum. I have managed to get to over level 13,000 this way.

Which map have instant death vulnerable bosses?

Don't worry that the levels spent raising the crown will cancel out the extra exp gained.

There are modes in the game which remove the time limit , the few levels spent taking the crown are well worth the return in increased exp , the weapon evolutions that use the crown are also decent.

You lose nothing by taking it in shorter runs (30 minutes or less) and in longer ones you gain many levels , with limit breaking each level becomes a power boost , without limit break it's money , either way is good as long as you know what you are doing.

You aren't forced to take it either , it's not the best option but it's perfectly fine to take it if you are using weapons that upgrade with it or if the items on the map allow you to take it.

While I haven't tried too hard to find out, all of the enemies that spawn in regards to time in the Mad Forest stage are vulnerable. The Atlanteans that spawn when you get close to the rings and the metaglios are not.

You don't need crown, but if you're going to use it take it as early as possible. I make sure to get it if I'm going for an unlock/achievement that requires a high level.

The later you are in the game, the less useful magnet gets. I barely use it any more unless it happens to be lying around on the map I'm playing.

Something related. Je-Ne-Viv have a hidden weapon, a damaging aura that scales with magnet and greed for size and damage.

Don't forget that the crown's xp gathering ability isn't the full extent of what it does. It's also used to evolve some weapons. And what weapons does it evolves? Well, 2 of the best ones: Pentagram and Prismatic Missile. So yeah, you need the crown anyway.
