Most likely you're running into a similar situation here. Even when you do meet the requirements for weapon evolution, it may still take several chests just to get the evolution you're looking for, even if everything else has been maxed out.
there's also the fact that on most maps chests from bosses before 10 minutes cannot evolve, even if you save the chest for later.
-Is my weapon max level?
-Do I have the required passive, or second weapon(or in some kind, the two passives, or two others weapons)?
-In some case, are the second weapon(s), or passive(s), maxed too?
-Is the chest I'm picking up from an enemy that spawned after the 10 minutes mark?
-Am I very very sure I haven't sealed the weapon I'm trying to evolve, or its evolution?
If you answered yes to all that, then your weapon should evolve once you pick a chest.
Do remember, though, that if you have multiple elligible weapons for evolution, others may evolve instead. Also, if you have a LOT of items which still can be upgraded, it drastically reduces your chances of getting the evolution, as the game can very well decide instead to give you one more level in something else.
Whatever happens, if you get money bags when picking a chest, it means there is nothing in your set that can be further upgraded. The game will never give you money bags in a chest unless it can't give you something else. You will always get an upgrade, or an evolution, first. Money bags are for when the pool is empty.
Also of note: If you banish a weapon during level up, then pick up that weapon on the ground, you will be stuck with that weapon at level 1 MAX. You won't be able to upgrade it at all, so don't banish a weapon you intend to pick up on the ground later thinking it doesn't matter because you will get it anyway. You will get punished for that. Don't seal it either, that will result in the same effect.
The exception to the money bag in chest rule are the candy boxes, which have a chance to spawn even when you already have 6 or more weapons, and are not guaranteed to drop in every chest. You can get one candy box, and one turbo candy box max, which, assuming you didn't pick weapons on the floor, brings your weapon amount from 6 to 8.
If despite all that, after having triple checked you did everything right, you still can't evolve a weapon, then, you can signal it as a bug.
As I've stated before, I've encountered multiple situations where I've gotten money bags from chests before weapon evolutions, even after meeting the requirements and even from chests that spawn after the 10 minute mark. This literally happened to me a few days ago when I tried to evolve the Mille Bolle Blu around 20 minutes in. I also had the same thing happen to me when trying to evolve the pentagram with everything else, including the crown, maxed out 20 minutes in; I didn't get the Gorgeous Moon until a few chests later, all of which spawned after the 20 minute mark. In both cases, none of the items I used were banished, and nothing was sealed.
From my experience, such occurrences are infrequent but they do happen from time to time.
That's very interesting to know. Though it's worth mentioning that this was not the case in my scenario; all the early chests were opened beforehand.
