Another player having a passive or weapon you need will not count towards weapon evolution either, and you can't have repeated weapons/relics in the same playthrough, maybe if you start with the same weapon as another player, but still, wont be getting a repeated through level up.
At least that's what I noticed during my few playthroughs, there might be inaccuracy.
XP Example:
- Player 1 will get to choose a power up on level 2.
- Player 2 will get to choose a power up on level 3 and then it will bounce back and forth between players.
When you play in 2 player co-op you're limited to 4 weapons and 4 passives per character. You can not both have duplicate items unless you find them on the map. You can however still break the limit of weapons / passives as long as you find those items on the map after you max out all your slots.
Power Up Example:
Player 1 chooses the Bracer on a level up, then Player 2 finds the Bracer on the map. You can both upgrade it.
Player 2 picks up the Bracer first before Player 1 chooses it as a power up, now Player 1 can no longer choose the Bracer as a power up.
You're also both limited to the same screen. The more players you play with the less passives / weapons each player can hold.
1P 6 / 6
2P 4 / 4
3P 3 / 3
4P 2 / 2
So it gets exponentially more difficult with more players honestly... it doesn't make the game any easier actually... You're literally better off playing as Sigma alone and just wrecking everything if you're going for quick achievements.
The co-op thing is honestly just a social gimmick... gives you a reason to talk about the game and share tips while playing... that's about it.
