Bone zone unlockable
This thing in the bone zone kept growing larger but never broke. How do I get it?

The enemies have scaling HP to your level when they first appear on the screen. On top of that the "Skeleton Moon" (don't remember the exact bestiary name) heals if it absorbs other skeletons.
So you need a compromise of a powerful build with the 'lowest' level you can when you encounter it. Some characters start with an evolved weapon, so that could be a solution.
If you have arcanas unlocked you can also try Silent Old Sanctuary and limiting to 1-2 weapons for other characters.
There are also some waves with a lower enemy count, which limits the healing it can get.

I can't remember who I completed it with, but a fast moving character with a long range weapon is really great. Then you can keep up with it and not get too close to that you die.

I think I grabbed a few weapons along the way for the regular spawns and then levelled them up while murdering it.

It does take a LONG time, I think I was fighting it for almost 25 mins as I remember being worried the timer would run out, but it died in time.

For that:
- deactivate your skull talent (also no skull or torona's box pickup in game)
- Figure out a good AOE build that fits your style and does damage. (so no garlic)
- Go as soon as you can to the bone ball(keep in mind you need to be able to kill the other mobs).

Now simply stay in front of him, doing as much damage as you can to him while AOE killing all the other mobs, don't let mobs touch it (a few ain't bad) Happy hunting!

A few chars that start with a powerful evolved weapon (ie: Leda, Marrabbio, etc.) can run down early and go pew-pew until it eventually dies.

Otherwise, you want to avoid going near it as you want to prevent enemies from spawning near it. Enemies it comes into contact with it will eat up and eventually become enourmous. Instead level up safely away from it, then when you have a full build ready, just run down to it and fight it then.

Do you have to then complete the mission aswell? or is just killing him enough to get the unlock? i just burnt an hour and a half with 3 clears and failed to kill him every time. Suppose i got a few golden eggs to compensate my time but i dont like failing...

Killing it drops a thing you'll need to pick up. Depending on how big the ball gets, it might technically drop off-screen. Should have a green arrow pointing at the drop if you wander too far away.

cool, i got discouraged from trying because i spent the final 3 minutes of a run chasing the thing on a red reaper, and it was quicker than my reaper and stayed out of the entire screen for the entire 3 minutes, very frustrating. Is there a way to slow it down or do i have to pick a speed boost and a high speed unit like a reaper?

Clock Lancet is your friend, or the Jail of Crystal randomazzo card if you've unlocked it to stick a freeze effect on a handful of other weapons. Either way, if you're doing good damage you should have the ball dead with several minutes till reaper-time. What's your usual build end up looking like?
Use Leda and run towards the "?" as soon as your Run starts and don't stop following him until he dies.

ive only had one good shot at it thus far, and i had clock lancet, he just stayed out of my vision too much to ever get struck by the damn thing. Good call with the clock lancet though ill make sure i have that in future.

Also, is there some sort of cooldown timer on getting such a weapon? i dont think i've seen clock lancet drop until after 10mins in game has passed.

All weapons are 100% rng once unlocked. The only way to get a specific weapon "faster" is to choose the character that starts with it or ban weapons prior to the run and/or that come with levelups so they dont go back into the weapon pool.

Like they said, no such cooldown or anything. What weapons you get is pure RNG, mitigated slightly by banishes, rerolls, and the like. The only guaranteed weapon is the character's starting weapon, and for Clock Lancet that's Gallo. Not recommended though, he's one of the harder characters to use.

Far as loadout goes, aim for Bible and Water if you can. Once evolved, they're both some of the highest AoE DPS sources in the game, especially if you further buff them with Gauntlets and Spinach. The two can carry basically any character through basically any level by themselves. Stand in front of the ball with them and watch the magic happen.
