Lots and lots of persistence. I usually find it easier to come down there when I have a few different weapons at varying levels. The ball will be bigger, sure, but then I just barrage it constantly while casually walking away from it. The two guns that shoot red and blue balls respectfully are especially helpful when the ball is big enough so you can hit it with both angles.
The ball also won't gain strength unless you go near it due to lack of nearby spawns so you could try avoiding it until you're completely tricked up then run down and fight it.
Then I just kinda stood under the thing and occasionally walked around it to kill the other smaller guys.
Oh, and use the gamekiller arcana.
As long as you don't let the smaller skeletons get to it it's a guaranteed win. It just takes a few minutes.
When it gets very large, its hitbox doesn't match its sprite and it gets very difficult to get hits in without taking damage.
When I tried again without Hyper mode, it was much easier to keep him small and outpace his growth with my damage.
At a certain point a ridiculous amount of enemies spawn (because naturally this thing has a ton of hp and takes a few minutes to kill) and that feeds into the time to kill if it absorbs them. You'd have to get super sweaty to manage that in hyper mode and therefore it's best to kill this thing in normal mode.
I'd consider turning off hyper essential to defeating it if only for the sake of easily managing the total hp.
