Main menu > Options > Data Recovery has restored my save both times so there might still be some hope
There's also the pinned thread on the matter which has other methods
apples to oranges
If this doesn't work for you another possible way to recover your save is through the Steam Cloud if you had it turned on. You can find the files for this here: https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=1794680
To recover through Steam Cloud:
- Download the file that has your save, this may be one that is called 'SaveDataBackup.sav'
- Rename it to "SaveData" (with no .sav) and then place it in the following location:
<STEAM_INSTALL_DIRECTORY>\userdata<YOUR_STEAM_USER_ID>\1794680\remote\SaveData
- Re-launch Vampire Survivors and it should have your save
I have a habit from time to time I make backups for all sorts of different things that I consider important. The last time I backed up was around 25 March, 2022 (25-03-2022). Steam Cloud at that time was turned off in the settings.
My SSD died a couple of months ago, suddenly and hopelessly. When I wanted to play a few days ago and saw a complete reset, which is logical. I looked in the dropbox, and found an old backup there (I guess the possibility that the save files are here, under some strange name), and here's the problem:
On the Internet it is indicated that the save is stored in
Roaming -> Vampire_Survivors -> saves
Moreover, there appeared other folders/files that didn’t seem to hit before, I suspect they are related to SteamCloud, which when I logged in a few days ago, as I understand it, it was enabled by default
saves:
-->\Steam\steamapps\common\Vampire Survivors\resources\app\.webpack\renderer
-->\Steam\userdata\[Steam user id]\1794680
-->\AppData\Roaming\Vampire_Survivors
-->\AppData\Roaming\Vampire_Survivors_117812865
-->\AppData\Roaming\Vampire_Survivors_Data
but in my backup there is no such folder Roaming\Vampire_Survivors\saves.
Roaming -> Vampire_Survivors ->
blob_storage -> fb8aab73-6300-4ca4-a0f1-34d38f8e9f3c
Code Cache -> js -> index-dir
Code Cache -> wasm -> index-dir
GPUCache
Local Storage -> leveldb
logs
session storage
(I would add a screenshot but have no idea how to do it in steam chats/discussions)
after looking at the comments, I understand somewhere in February / March there was a massive crash of saves among users
looked into Save Data Recovery
1) I don't have it on the menu
2) did not work
3) I don't have such a file
4) Steam Cloud at that time was turned off
For some reason, the link to the discord turned out to be non-working in my case. But it doesn't matter, on a server search request "Vampire Survivors" on discord - there were only two results (I was afraid of the worst to be honest), so finding the right one was not difficult.

worked for me
Well, this is at least something, although it seems to me that I had more open things than here, as I understand it, nothing can be done to restore mine ...
Really, it's not that long to "regain" everything even starting fresh, and because of how long ago you played it, you'd likely be better off just playing the game and using your knowledge of the game to get everything even faster than someone on their first go.
Like, yeah, having to do the 30 minute challenge again with every character on every map is gonna be annoying, but that's just more chances to flex your mental muscles and find new ways to do it faster or more efficiently.
To be fair, I'm also the kinda guy to get excited to get into the "G's of damage one on runs, so maybe I'm just weird.
