what is it about endless mode?

Just tried it for first time... so basically we can just leave the game running and sleep or have some social time with girlfriend or whatever... which is cool... but is there something behind this? I've managed to "survive" to around 40 minutes and just killed the game. Most of the time it looks like this:

well, that's it.
it's basically just to earn money i guess. but 40 minutes is not much more than 30 minutes + 10 minutes.

Ah... gold... okay. Im not asking why we need to farm gold in this game, I understand this is just a matter of hobby. So, basically if I'm not into gold farming it was a good choice to stop playing around 40 minutes?

There are a few achievements/secrets where it might be handy to have more time. Either directly (surviving 31 minutes in a stage is easier when the reaper just never shows), or indirectly (killing 100k enemies can be tight on a 30 minute timer).

Outside of those? I tend to play in hurry mode most of the time, because even 30 minutes feels like a big chunk of time when I can do just as much in 15.

I got to about 525:00 at one point.I am glad for endless mode and really enjoy it.
