Report a translation problem
(note: you can gain sealed weapons via the boxes, they will simply remain at the lowest level and not gain levels, similar to banishing it after acquiring it)
I'd make absolutely sure that it and it's evolution are not sealed.
Then make sure you get the Spellbinder and level it up, as it's one of those where the passive that it needs for evolving also needs to be max level instead of just "in your inventory".
I'd personally also use the character that has it as it's starter weapon rather than getting it from trouser or the merchant or hoping for simple dumb luck, just to make absolutely sure.
